Hon. Valentino Achak Deng Responds to Calls to Contest for NBGs Governorship

Hon. Valentino Achak Deng Nyibek has responded to members of the Aweil community who have been calling on him to contest for the governorship of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State - Aweil.

In a comment seen by Media, Valentino said he sees an advantage in the upcoming election, but stated he would vote for Lt. Charles Madut Akol.

He further shared what his campaign agenda would have been if he were to contest.

"I see an advantage in the election, but I would vote for Lt. Charles Madut Akol. My campaign theme would be the holistic, exponential eradication of illiteracy, poverty, and diseases. It would be executed in alignment with domestic, national, and international opportunities and partnerships," he wrote.

His comment comes amid growing public discussions on social media about who should lead Northern Bahr El Ghazal State as the country prepares for general elections scheduled for December 22, 2026, according to the National Elections Commission.

Valentino Deng is a well-known public figure from Aweil and has previously been active in public discourse on governance and development issues in the state Media

Economic Reform Committee Discusses Security Arrangements and Policy Implementation

The Ministerial High-Level Committee on Economic Reform held its regular meeting this afternoon in a session chaired by General Pieng Deng Kuol at the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

The Committee invited heads of security sector including, the Chief of Defense Force, Gen. Santino Deng Wol, Inspector General of Police, Gen. Said Chawoul Lom and Director General of National Security- Internal Security Bureau, Gen. Akech Tong Aleu and briefed them about the Committee’s assessment mission to Nimule in July and the subsequent visits to Jebel Ladu and Yei Road in August.​

In his statement to the media after the meeting, the Rapporteur of the Committee, Hon. James Mawich said the meeting briefed the heads of security sector about the security arrangements and the general situation of organized forces operating along Nimule highway and major roads connecting Juba to peripheral towns across the country.

The Committee called for a joint cooperation with the security sector to remove all the illegal checkpoints on the roads cutdown the large number of deployed forces and urged the heads of organized forces to support the work of the Committee in implementing their mandate based on the Presidential Order and the Cabinet Resolution to ensure timely payment of salaries and stabilize the economy.

The Rapporteur also added that the Committee completed payment of salaries to the army and continuing with the Police and other organized forces, while preparing to commence payment for civil servants salaries within the week.
