The Final Bridal Tauʻolunga
The final bridal tauʻolunga is a cherished Tongan wedding tradition in which the bride performs a tau’olunga during her wedding reception. It symbolises her final dance as a single woman, marking the transition into married life. Rich in cultural significance, the tauʻolunga celebrates the bride’s beauty, grace, heritage, and the love and respect shared between two families as they come together in marriage. The money placed on the head is a gesture of deep reverence, honour & respect & is usually given to the fahu or the father’s eldest sister. In Tongan culture the head is regarded as sacred making the act more meaningful.
