One day my daughter googled me in class, & told her classmates “that’s my mom”. She told me their response was “that’s not your mom, that looks like a famous person” lmao. I was like WAIT WHAT 😂. So fast forward…. when she told me her school was doing a career day I HAD to show up.
There were so many remarks, comments, & questions. Here are a few that I remember:
“Can you do my makeup tomorrow?”
“Can you make me braces?”
“My grandpa showed me Jeepers Creepers”
“Can I keep this clay?”
“Can you teach me how to do that?”
“My favorite movie is scream 7”
“Did you do Michael Jacksons makeup?”
“I have a Terrifier mask”
“Can you come to my birthday party?”
“Have you ever met Beyonce?”
“Your presentation was my favorite”

Today we dove deep into foam latex prosthetic application from skin prep, piece inspection, sanitation, correcting mistakes, edge blending, product knowledge, & safe removal ☺️
Watching this amazing entertainer walk away confident & excited to apply their own prosthetics for their gigs was everything ☺️🫶🏻

Film budgets don’t always allow for a full SFX team or professional makeup artist, but strong storytelling still deserves powerful detail.
I chose dirt & grime for this segment because it’s a super simple technique that completely enhances a character that ANYONE on set can learn to do.
You don’t need:
❌Expensive products
❌Adhesives
❌Special tools
❌Blood
In the event that a makeup artist is not present, it’s a pretty simple skill for anyone on set to understand & keep in their back pocket so they can step in & assist if they wanted to. These small details truly make a big difference in storytelling & showing the characters journey.
This was so much fun. Definitely looking forward to hosting more group sessions 🖤 What should I teach next?? Let me know in the comments.
