"Tik Tok" face
Online filters have contributed to a 77% increase in facial plastic procedures in the past year.
The negative impact the increased use of video has on our level of self-scrutiny, creating unrealistic beauty standards, is amplified by Tik Tok’s advanced filter technology.
Facial plastic surgeon Dr. Corey Maas said, “unlike its predecessors, Tik Tok makes those static filters fluid, further blurring the lines between fantasy and reality.”

Corner Lip Lift? Smile Lift?
Another alternative to perfect the pout is the corner lip lift or the “smile lift,” which can lift drooping corners of the mouth caused by aging.
According to Dr. Sanjay Grover, a Newport Beach plastic surgeon, "as we age, the distance from the base of the nose to the colored lip thins and lengthens, resulting in less visibility of the upper incisors."
He also says "unlike a traditional lip lift, which involves shortening the length between the nose and the upper lip to create a fuller-looking top lip, a corner lip lift involves removing one to three millimeters of skin at the junction of the lip border at the corner."
“The best candidates for a corner lip lift are patients that appear to show no or very little lateral lip,” says Pallo Alto, CA facial plastic surgeon David Lieberman, MD. “It looks as if their lip is fuller, centrally, but the fullness and the lip line rapidly taper downward laterally, toward the corners. This can be due to general anatomy, a prior traditional lip lift, or it can develop through the aging process.”

Plastic Surgery Reversal?
A new fad is the "plastic surgery reversal". It is reversing the result of a previous procedure or surgery that may have gone as planned or desired, yet the patient now wants to change it back to their original state. This is unlike a revision, which implies something didn't go as expected or desired.
While he doesn’t fully blame social media, Dr. Sanjay Grover, a Newport, CA plastic surgeon, says new fads and trends in the aesthetics world are quickly disseminated and glamorized by it.
According to La Jolla, CA plastic surgeon Robert Singer, “when receiving aesthetic surgery from a board-certified plastic surgeon who properly screens patients and explains what is realistic and unrealistic, there is a high degree of success.”
A reversal will NOT take it back to exactly the way it was before surgery.

How to enhance plastic surgery results?
According to Dr. Jordan Terner, "people look the most natural when you combine both surgical and nonsurgical modalities,” he says. “Nonsurgical treatments can only take you so far. Surgical treatments can only take you so far. But when you combine the two, the results are cumulative."
Some of these include:
- Facelift + PRP Injections
- Upper Blepharoplasty + Botox
- Neck Lift + Kybella
These pairings work really well together.

Sunken Temples
They can exacerbate crow’s-feet, make the brow look heavy, and even change the shape of the face, giving it a peanut-shell silhouette.
Injectable fillers—both hyaluronic acid (HA) varieties and non-HA volumizers—can restore temples to their former proportions, softening the face in the most discreet way.
However, there are some things to know before having this treatment:
- Certain people are more prone to temple hollowing
- Filling the temples adds a subtle youthfulness
- They are not for everyone and can make you feel weird and cause
jaw pain
- The temples are a danger zone
- There is no one best filler for temples
- You can overfill this area
- It can be pricey
You should make sure that your injector understands temple anatomy and knows to target specific planes, placing filler only at safe depths, where there are no vessels.

The truth is that no cosmetic procedure is without risk. Skin necrosis is one of the scariest, requiring immediate medical attention. It’s more likely to occur after major surgeries, though it can also happen if there’s vascular occlusion from an injectable filler.
Skin necrosis is the death of tissue when there is not enough blood or oxygen flowing to a specific region.
Skin necrosis is rare after plastic surgery. In the case of fillers, it is more likely to happen in areas that are more vascular like temples and the nose.
Treatment must be sought immediately for necrosis. Excess pressure from sutures can be released, a hematoma drained, filler dissolved, using a hyperbaric chamber or removing dead tissue.
Smokers are at the highest risk for necrosis.

What is driving the trend? Zoom culture, Instagram and Marvel superhero movies.
Dr. Doft believes in explaining to patients what she thinks she can realistically achieve and what she can’t achieve.
