Why does water bead on tallow-treated skin?

It’s not magic, it’s skin science. 🐄✨

Tallow is naturally rich in lipids that are similar to those found in our skin’s own protective barrier. As an emollient, it helps soften and smooth the skin, while its occlusive properties create a protective layer over the surface that helps slow transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

That protective layer is why you can see water visibly bead up on the skin rather than immediately soaking in.

Think of it as a little extra support for your skin barrier: softening + conditioning + protecting without relying on a complicated ingredient list.

Healthy skin needs lipids. Tallow is a simple, naturally lipid-rich way to give your skin some of them. 🤍

Occlusive Emollient

Many tallow brands, cut corners by adding essential oils to their formulation. And I don’t blame them. It’s an easy way to predictably add a scent profile to the product. however, this can be problematic for people with allergies because the product is so potent. If one is switching to tallow to avoid synthetic ingredients and improve skin sensitivity, using essential oils really doesn’t make sense because they are some of the strongest potent ingredients out there that can cause allergic reactions ! that’s why I completely omit essential oils in my formulations and I use flower infusions instead.

This was an older graphic I made! We have newer infusions still made with organic ingredients. Just check the label! We are working on converting to all organic herbs. Our suet will always be from family owned farms so they do not have an organic label, as that is two cost intensive for a family owned farm. I source my suet from grass fed and regenerative farms here in MD.

Every jar and tube is made with 100% grass-fed, pasture-raised beef tallow that’s slowly rendered in small batches and infused with whole botanicals, never synthetic fragrance or essential oils.
