An Open Heart in an Unsteady World

How do we balance opening our hearts to new people while also protecting ourselves?

Life is a tremendous experiment. We can approach it with immense caution and fear, or with caution and an open heart. I choose the latter.

Anger and fear are not emotions I choose to feed. I feel lighter when I'm open, trusting, loving and honest. I wear my heart like a trusted hairstyle. It's my comfort zone, where I feel most like myself. But perhaps it's not suited for every occasion, and that's where I find the greatest discomfort.

I don't want to become guarded simply because the world can be unpredictable. I don't want to lose the parts of myself that make me feel most alive just to avoid the possibility of disappointment.

But I am learning that openness and discernment can coexist. That we can welcome connection without abandoning ourselves in the process.

And perhaps that's the experiment.

To remain true to ourselves while learning to regulate our nervous systems in an unsteady world. Add other people, their histories, fears, expectations, and uncertainties to the mix, and maintaining that balance becomes even more challenging.

But isn't that the goal? To find our center even when old fears and anxieties begin to speak. To recognize those feelings without allowing them to make our decisions.

To remain soft without becoming fragile. To trust without losing discernment. To love without losing ourselves.

Forever learning. Forever growing. Forever experimenting.

An open heart, grounded feet, and the courage to keep showing up. ❤️

Life lately has been a mix of beautiful moments and unexpected challenges. A touch of loneliness, a wounded hand and stitches, a little rejection, and a whole lot of gratitude.

Being human is a constant dance of competing energies. Most days, things feel beautifully aligned. Other days, nothing quite seems to fall into place. And that's the adventure of life. Not every day will feel balanced, not every connection will make sense, and not every moment needs to.

So, enjoy the sunshine, admire the moon, tend to your plants and flowers, love on the animals, take a long warm bath, and watch a fun show. Find joy in the little things, especially when life feels a bit out of sync.

We keep learning, growing, healing, and finding our way. And there's something beautiful in that, too.
