MEET YOUR KIDNEYS SERIES 🫘

🫘 DAY 2 — YOUR KIDNEYS FILTER YOUR BLOOD… BUT THAT’S NOT ALL

When we hear about the kidneys, we often hear one thing:

“The kidneys remove toxins.”

That’s true, but it’s only part of the story.

Your kidneys are constantly checking what is in your blood. They remove waste products and extra water, which eventually leave your body as urine. But at the same time, they carefully keep what your body still needs.

And filtering is only one of their jobs.

Your kidneys also help:

🩸 Balance fluids and minerals — including sodium and potassium.

❤️ Regulate blood pressure — partly through hormones such as renin.

🦴 Support healthy bones — by activating vitamin D so your body can properly manage calcium.

🔴 Support red blood cell production — by producing erythropoietin (EPO), a hormone that signals your bone marrow to make red blood cells.

⚖️ Maintain acid-base balance — helping keep the pH of your blood within a very narrow range.

So your kidneys are not simply a “filter” or a “detox organ.”

They are also balancers, regulators, and hormone-producing organs working quietly every day to keep your internal environment stable.

Tomorrow, we’ll go a little deeper into this amazing system. 🫘

🫘 BLACK-EYED PEAS — SMALL BEANS, BIG NUTRITION

Don’t let their size fool you! Black-eyed peas, also called cowpeas, are legumes packed with valuable nutrients.

They provide:

🌱 Plant protein — helps build and repair body tissues.
🌾 Fiber — supports digestion, regular bowel movements, fullness, and healthy cholesterol levels.
🩸 Folate (Vitamin B9) — important for DNA production and healthy red blood cell formation.
⚡ Iron — needed to make hemoglobin, which carries oxygen in the blood.
💪 Magnesium & phosphorus — important for muscles, nerves, bones, and energy metabolism.
❤️ Potassium — helps support normal muscle function and healthy blood pressure.
🫘 They are naturally low in saturated fat and contain no cholesterol.

One important nutrition tip:
The iron in black-eyed peas is non-heme iron, which the body absorbs less efficiently than iron from animal foods. Pair them with a vitamin C-rich food such as tomatoes, bell peppers, oranges, or lemon to help improve iron absorption.

And yes—the little black “eye” is exactly where the name black-eyed pea comes from. Despite the word pea, it belongs to the cowpea species (Vigna unguiculata).

Simple food. Affordable food. A lot of nutrition in one little bean. 🤎

NEW SERIES:MEET YOUR KIDNEYS

Day 1 —Your kidneys work every day;what are you giving them?

👉🏾“Two small organs are working for you all day long. But did you know that what you eat and drink can affect how hard they have to work?”

“Welcome to Day 1 of Know Your Body. Today, meet your kidneys.

You have two kidneys, and one of their important jobs is filtering your blood and helping your body remove waste and extra water through urine.

❤️💥But this is a nutrition series, so here’s what I really want you to understand:

✅Your kidneys are affected by your everyday habits—especially hydration, sodium intake, blood pressure, and blood sugar management.

🙏🏾So supporting your kidneys doesn’t start with a special detox drink. It starts with everyday choices: drinking appropriate amounts of water, not overdoing sodium, eating a balanced diet, and taking care of your blood pressure and blood sugar.

Over the next few days, we’re going to talk about those choices one by one.
—because before we talk about ‘kidney-friendly foods,’ we need to understand what our kidneys actually need.

Education before extreme.”

🛑Your kidneys don’t need a miracle “cleanse.” 🤎
Start by understanding the everyday habits that support kidney health.

YOU EAT THE POTATO… BUT WHAT ABOUT THE LEAVES? 🌿👀

This is one reason I love living greens. 💚

These are sweet potato leaves, also known as matembele in my culture—and they are more than just beautiful green leaves on a plant.

Sweet potato leaves provide nutrients including fiber, beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin K, folate, and minerals such as iron and calcium. 🌿

That means these greens can contribute to a balanced diet that supports normal vision and immune function, healthy blood formation, digestion, and bone health.

And this is exactly why my love for living greens keeps growing. 💚 Sometimes we focus so much on the root that we forget there may be something valuable growing above it too.

Nature has so much to teach us when we learn to look at food beyond what we normally put on our plates.

My love for living greens. My love for the goodness of nature. 🌿🤎

💥💥💥💥Your body doesn’t need perfection. It needs consistency. 🤎

👉🏾You don’t have to change everything about the way you eat overnight.

Sometimes supporting your health looks simple: drinking enough water, adding vegetables to your plate, choosing whole foods more often, moving your body, getting enough rest, and paying attention to what your body needs.

One healthy choice may seem small, but repeated choices become habits—and habits can shape your health over time.

Wellness isn’t about eating perfectly every day. It’s about learning your body and making intentional choices more often.

Pepper Chicken with Fried Cassava 🍗🌶️

Tonight’s dinner is simple, flavorful, and satisfying. Soft chicken cooked with red bell pepper and onions, paired with golden fried cassava.

This plate is a reminder that wellness doesn’t mean giving up the foods we grew up enjoying. It’s about understanding what’s on our plate, how we prepare it, and finding balance in our everyday meals.

Chicken provides protein, red bell pepper adds vitamin C and other nutrients, while cassava provides carbohydrates for energy.

🔥 OUR FINAL LESSON: BEFORE YOU FAST, PREPARE YOUR BODY TOO

Today we are closing our teaching series on the pancreas, glucose, insulin, glycogen, glucagon and fasting.

And what a journey it has been. 🤎

We learned that after we eat, glucose enters the bloodstream and insulin helps our cells use that glucose while helping the body store some of the excess as glycogen.

We also learned that when blood glucose begins to fall, glucagon signals the liver to release stored glucose.

And during fasting, as glycogen stores decrease, the body gradually increases its use of stored fat, while the liver produces more ketones that can be used for energy.

So I want to finish this series with one important message:

🙏🏽 IF YOU ARE GOING TO FAST, PREPARE SPIRITUALLY—BUT PREPARE YOUR BODY WISELY TOO.

Sometimes we prepare our prayers.
We prepare our Scriptures.
We prepare our hearts.

But remember: your body is going through that fast with you.

Before a prolonged fast, don’t try to prepare by overeating. Instead, focus on balanced, nourishing meals—vegetables and fruits, adequate protein, healthy fats, fiber-rich carbohydrates, and good hydration when your fasting practice allows water.

Taking care of your body does not make your spiritual discipline weaker.

Wisdom matters too.

And with that, we close our pancreas series. 🥹🤎

To every person who followed these lessons from the beginning, asked questions, shared the posts, sent messages, encouraged me, or quietly came back every day to learn:

THANK YOU.

I will never take your support for granted.

My prayer is that you leave this series understanding your body a little better than you did when we started.

Because the more we understand the body, the better equipped we are to care for it.

Education before extreme.

Until our next teaching series… 🤎

MANGOSTEEN: Have you seen this purple fruit before? Wait until you see what’s hiding inside. 👀

💥👉🏾Meet mangosteen, a tropical fruit with a thick purple rind and beautiful soft white flesh inside.
Mangosteen is known as the "Queen of Fruits,

" While it looks like a hard, purple wood apple on the outside, opening it reveals snow-white, juicy segments that taste like a heavenly mix of lychee, peach, strawberry, and pineapple.

💡 Quick Facts
Mangosteen Origin: Native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia (mainly Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia)The dark purple rind is thick and bitter, but it protects a sweet, tangy, and delicate interior.The Secret Trick.
✅💚Researchers have investigated that Mangosteen is packed with xanthones—rare, powerful plant antioxidants found mostly in the rind and pulp that fight inflammation.Immune Booster, antioxidant activity...,all are here 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾

*👉🏾 inflammation support
* immune-health support
* digestive health because the fruit contains fiber
* cardiovascular/metabolic health
* blood-sugar-related effects
* antimicrobial activity
* skin health
* and even anticancer effects
High in Vitamin C and fiber, making it a natural shield.

Traditional medicine uses it to clear up skin and reduce aging signs due to its high antioxidant count.

🩷🩷👉🏾👉🏾But here is where nutrition education gets interesting: What was studied—the whole fruit, the rind, an extract, or an isolated compound? Was the research done in a laboratory, in animals, or in humans?

🩷👉🏾Those details matter when we interpret a health claim.

So before we call a food powerful—or dismiss it completely—let’s such , do a research on your phone and understand what the research actually studied.(your Homework 😃😳)
