DIY Copper Peptide + Matrixyl Sheet Mask 💙
Today I’m making a luxurious Copper Peptide + Matrixyl Sheet Mask Essence designed to hydrate, soothe and support smoother, firmer-looking skin. Saturate a dry sheet mask with the essence, leave it on for about 15 minutes, then remove the mask and leave all that beautiful serum behind—no rinsing!
✨ Featured Actives
GHK-Cu (Copper Peptide) — A well-known skincare peptide used to support healthier-looking skin, elasticity and the appearance of firmness and fine lines.
Matrixyl 3000 — A peptide complex formulated to support smoother, firmer-looking skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines.
Tremella Mushroom Extract — A polysaccharide-rich humectant that helps attract and retain moisture while giving skin a soft, plumped appearance.
Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5) — Hydrating and soothing; helps support the skin barrier and leaves skin feeling soft.
Betaine — A gentle humectant that helps maintain hydration and improves the silky feel of the serum.
Allantoin — A wonderfully soothing ingredient that helps soften and comfort the skin.
💙 Recipe — 510 g Batch
This makes enough for approximately four 4-oz jars, plus a little extra for mixing and transfer loss.
400 g distilled water to start
1.02 g allantoin
7.65 g betaine
7.65 g panthenol
0.30 g concentrated tremella extract powder
25.5 g Lotioncrafter liquid GHK-Cu
3.2 g Matrixyl 3000
2.55 g Liquid Germall Plus
Additional distilled water to bring the finished batch to exactly 510 g
Warm the initial 400 g distilled water to about 140°F/60°C. Stir in the allantoin until dissolved, followed by the betaine and panthenol.
Allow the mixture to cool to below 104°F/40°C. Slowly sprinkle in the tremella and allow it to hydrate. Once cool, gently mix in the GHK-Cu and Matrixyl 3000, followed by Liquid Germall Plus. Add additional distilled water until the entire batch weighs 510 g.
Check the finished pH; I’m aiming for approximately 5.2–5.5.
How I Use It
Saturate a clean, dry sheet mask with the essence and apply to freshly cleansed skin for about 15 minutes. Remove the mask while it's still moist, pat the remaining essence into the skin and don't rinse. Let it absorb before applying the rest of your skincare.
Important: This is a DIY personal-use formulation, not a commercially stability- or challenge-tested formula. Ingredient concentrations can vary by supplier, so always follow your supplier's specifications and patch-test a new formulation before use.
My cute little Calendula Tallow soaps. Only 6 weeks until curing. The batch:
10.5 oz calendula-infused tallow
4 oz coconut oil
1.5 oz jojoba oil
16 oz total oils
Lye + distilled water calculated for the batch using a soap calculator
5% superfat
I infused dried calendula into the tallow before making the soap, then poured the finished batter into these adorable bee and honeycomb molds. 🐝🌼

Essential oils, while natural, can be irritating and unsafe if used improperly on the skin. Here are key safety tips for usage:
- **Check IFRA Recommendations:** Different essential oils have varying maximum usage levels based on product types. Always refer to the supplier's current IFRA Certificate.
- **Dilute Appropriately:** There is no universal dilution percentage for essential oils; some require higher or lower concentrations.
- **Know Your Oil:** Research the specific botanical, extraction method, and safety details rather than just the label.
- **Caution with Citrus Oils:** Some citrus oils may be phototoxic and should have strict limits for sun-exposed skin use.
- **Patch Test New Products:** Even within recommended limits, reactions can occur in sensitive individuals.
- **Avoid Overuse:** More essential oil does not equal more benefits; proper formulation is key.

CHEMICAL-FREE? 🧪
That’s not a thing.
“Chemical-free” might be one of the most misleading buzzwords in beauty and wellness marketing.
Here’s why:
Everything is made of chemicals.
💧 Water? Chemical.
🌿 Aloe vera? Thousands of chemicals.
🥥 Coconut oil? Chemicals.
🌹 Rose essential oil? Chemicals.
🫵 You? Also chemicals.
A chemical isn’t automatically synthetic, toxic, harsh, or dangerous. It’s simply matter with a defined chemical composition.
So when a product says “chemical-free,” what does that actually mean?
Scientifically? Nothing.
Usually, the phrase is being used to suggest “safer,” “more natural,” or “better for you” without actually telling you anything useful about the formulation.
And that's the problem.
The question shouldn't be:
“Does this contain chemicals?”
It should be:
“WHICH chemicals does it contain, at WHAT concentration, and are they appropriate for their intended use?”
🌿 Natural doesn't automatically mean safe.
🧪 Synthetic doesn't automatically mean dangerous.
Stop shopping by fear-based buzzwords. Start learning ingredients.

🚨 BUZZWORD BREAKDOWN: "WATERLESS"
Somehow, water has become the latest ingredient to avoid.
But here's the irony...
💧 Water is one of the best hydrators we have.
Your skin needs water. In fact, many of the ingredients we love—glycerin, hyaluronic acid, sodium PCA, aloe vera, panthenol, and snow mushroom—work by helping your skin attract or retain water.
Without water, they're missing part of the equation.
Does that mean waterless products are bad?
Absolutely not.
Some products, like cleansing balms, facial oils, shampoo bars, and powder cleansers, make perfect sense without water.
But "waterless" doesn't automatically mean better, cleaner, more concentrated, or more effective.
Sometimes water is exactly what a formulation needs.
So don't let a marketing trend convince you that water is a cheap filler or something your skin should avoid.
It's not.
💧 Water isn't the enemy. It's one of your skin's best friends.
Don't follow buzzwords. Learn ingredients. Understand formulations.
That's where informed choices begin.

🚨 BUZZWORD BREAKDOWN: “NON-TOXIC”
“Non-toxic” sounds reassuring. It sounds like it means a product has been tested and determined to be safer.
But “non-toxic” is a marketing term, not a standardized safety rating for cosmetics.
There isn't a special test or certification a cosmetic has to pass simply because the manufacturer puts NON-TOXIC on the label. Companies have considerable freedom in the marketing language they use, although their claims still cannot be false or misleading.
And here's something important:
🧪 Toxicity depends on dose and exposure.
Almost anything can cause harm under the wrong circumstances or at a high enough dose. What matters is how much, how often, and how you're exposed to it.
That's the difference between hazard and risk.
So don't assume a bottle labeled “non-toxic” is automatically safer—or that the bottle without those words is somehow toxic.
Don't choose your products by buzzwords.
Learn the ingredients. Understand what they do.
Then make your choice.
Because knowing what's actually in the bottle tells you a whole lot more than what's printed on the front of it. 🧚♀️

🧪 BUZZWORD BREAKDOWN #1: “CLEAN”
“Clean” sounds reassuring—but what does it actually mean in skincare and haircare?
There is no single, standardized definition of “clean” cosmetics. One brand’s definition can be completely different from another’s.
And “clean” does not automatically mean:
• safer
• non-toxic
• natural
• better for sensitive skin
• free from synthetic ingredients
A synthetic ingredient isn’t automatically harmful, and a natural ingredient isn’t automatically safe. What matters is the actual ingredient, the amount being used, how you’re exposed to it, and the formulation as a whole.
So instead of letting a buzzword make the decision for you, flip the bottle over.
