When you feel the temptation to do a hard reset of ALL the habits, to push your children towards worthwhile endeavors and interests, don't skip over the foundation Charlotte Mason knew we needed for lasting, rooted ideas to grow - atmosphere.
Take the temperature of the atmosphere of your home. Is it anxious? Insecure? Harried? Are you more likely to "strike like a weapon" to get ideas across, rather than "invest as an atmosphere"?
Ask yourself when you last used a "look of gentleness," "tone of reverence," "word of kindness," or "act of help" as your first step in guiding your children towards good, true, and beautiful knowledge and pursuits.
Start small, with these guidelines. And as your seek to shepherd your children's hearts, receive encouragement from the Good Shepherd, who loves them more than you do.
Let Him shepherd your heart, too.
Share ways you have found helpful to examine and address the atmosphere in your home in the comments below!

Matthew 14 shares the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand. While we may not have five thousand children, being homeschooling parents often feels like having five thousand daily tasks! The job before us is often daunting, and sometimes discouraging. Emily's devotion at the end of Season 11 is a tender reminder that regardless of how we are closing out this school year, the Good Shepherd cares for us and for our children and can do "far more abundantly more than all that we ask or think" (Ephesians 3:20). To Him be the glory!
What are ways you remind yourself to place your homeschool in Jesus' hands? Comment below!
