Summer Shipping Update
With rising temperatures, we are taking steps to protect our tallow products during shipment. To prevent melting, we ship our products at the beginning of the week and use ice packs in all packages. In the event of melting, we recommend gently stirring the product and storing it in a cool, dry place to maintain its quality.

Not all tallow is created the same.
Some companies choose to bleach or heavily refine their tallow to remove its natural color and scent.
At Tallow & Root, we don’t.
We keep our tallow as close to its natural state as possible—gently rendered from grass-fed suet and minimally processed.
That’s exactly how it should be.
We believe less processing means more of what your skin actually benefits from.
Simple. Pure. Natural.

HISTORY OF TALLOW
Although some claim tallow is a recent trend, its usage spans centuries
Tallow has a documented history in skincare stretching back over 5,000 years, serving as a primary moisturizer and healing agent long before the invention of synthetic creams.
Egyptians: Used tallow-based ointments and balms to protect skin from the harsh desert sun and dry winds. It was often mixed with herbs and essential oils for fragrance.
Romans & Greeks: Integrated tallow into their famous bathhouse rituals, applying it after cleansing to soften and moisturize the skin. Roman physicians also recorded its use for treating wounds and skin rashes.
Apothecary Use: Skilled artisans used it as a stable base for medicinal salves, carrying healing herbs like lavender and chamomile to treat cuts, burns, and inflammation.
Nobility: Even the elite used refined, perfumed tallow-based balms to maintain a youthful appearance and protect against harsh weather.
Pioneer Life: In early America, rendering tallow was a standard household chore. Women used it to make everything from soaps and candles to moisturizing salves for their families.
Victorian Era: Tallow continued to be a vital component in cosmetics, frequently blended with floral oils to create "luxurious" lotions
