The REAL key to brightening skin comes down to blocking melanin production and stopping oxidative stress, ESPECIALLY as it relates to darkening caused by high-friction areas or acne. So let’s get into why we added both turmeric and saffron to address this.
Those dark spots form when your skin overproduces melanin, driven by an enzyme called tyrosinase. The good news is, the curcumin in turmeric is a tyrosinase inhibitor. It stops pigment production before it reaches the surface. Curcumin also has anti-inflammatory properties that address the molecules responsible for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Those are the dark spots that appear after acne heals.
Saffron on the other hand contains an antioxidant called crocin, which brightens but also absorbs environmental stressors like UV exposure and pollution that dull the skin. Saffron also contains crocetin, another antioxidant that supports cell turnover and helps renew the surface layer of skin. Lastly, the safranal in saffron is another powerhouse antioxidant that works to calm redness, especially during exfoliation.
TL;DR To sum it up, both cosmetic-grade extracts work to address dullness from two different angles: blocking production at the source and defending against external damage.
In our body scrub, your skin gets both. Not one or the other. But wait, there’s more! Stay tuned to find out what else this scrub has in store 🫣
