I am thrilled and honored to be part of the current Art in Action fundraiser, which is currently on view at the Off Ludlow Gallery.

Please plan to attend the Art in Action Exhibition Artist Talk at the Off Ludlow Gallery to learn more about the work:

1-3pm
Saturday July 25th
Off Ludlow Gallery
3408 Ormond Ave.
Clifton Gaslight

More than two dozen artists have created original art inspired by the work of area nonprofits, including two talented Cincinnati artists–Cedric Michael Cox and Paul Kroner–whose work touches on themes in the Heart of Northside mission.

Thanks to matching funds, 80% of the purchase price of the art sales directly benefit each chosen nonprofit. That means the sales of Cedric’s and Paul’s pieces will go toward our mission. If you feel inclined to make a purchase, I would be so grateful for your support of these artists and the Heart of Northside!

Earlier this summer, Hamilton County Commissioner Denise Driehaus and her team toured the Heart of Northside!

This was a great chance to demonstrate the work being accomplished with a variety of partners, and to discuss potential next steps for strategic, mission-centered growth.

Ringing our 19th century church bell is always a highlight of these tours! 🔔

Have you checked out our pollinator garden lately?

This is an effort by a group of volunteers spearheaded by second-year medical student Ryan Goodson, and I’m so grateful for their hard work!

Increasing the pollinator population on busy Hamilton Ave. helps to improve the pollinator population for gardens all over the neighborhood. This also supports the ongoing effort to grow food for Northside right here, on and in the Heart of Northside. Pollinators in the community ensure that we can continue to have a vibrant, healthy ecosystem to support the growth of food for our community.

As you walk down the street or wait for the Cincinnati Metro bus, take a moment to appreciate these plantings and the beneficial bugs they’re attracting!

One of my favorite things to do is supporting businesses in Northside. Not only is it good for our community health, but in this case, it’s good for my body’s health, too!

My family and I recently celebrated a family milestone at Dean's Mediterranean Imports and had a wonderful time. The food was fresh, delicious, full of amazing flavors, and rich in foods that are healthy, like beans, fresh fruits and veggies, nuts, and olive oil. The server was fast, attentive, and sensitive to our grandbaby’s needs.

Then, we got to shop for some take-home food and gifts!

Pro tip: Even if you think you don't like cauliflower, you have to try Dean's take on it! It's crispy, infused with ras al hanout and served with tahini sauce and pomegranate molasses. I promise that it'll delight your tastebuds!

If you've eaten at Dean's, what dish would you especially recommend?

TONIGHT! See you at the Art in Action Exhibition Opening Reception at the Off Ludlow Gallery!

Art in Action is designed to elevate the impact of art and artists can have on our community. The show accomplishes this by bringing the stories of local cause-based nonprofits to life through artistic expression while creating an opportunity to raise funds for those nonprofits.

Each participating artist selects a local nonprofit and creates original artwork inspired by the organization’s mission. This show also gives participating nonprofits access to new socially minded patrons.

Cedric Michael Cox and Paul Kroner contributed art inspired by the Heart of Northside!

A benefactor will match donations made when an art piece sells, so the corresponding nonprofits will receive 80% of the value of the art sold on opening night. It’s very exciting! If you’ve had your eye on one of the pieces in this exhibition, please consider making your purchase Thursday night to maximize your impact!

The Off Ludlow Gallery is located at 3408 Ormond Ave. in the former Clifton Gaslight post office.

Event Schedule:

Opening Reception Thursday July 16th 6-8pm
Artist Talk Sunday July 26th 1-3pm
Closing Reception Friday July 31st 6-8pm

Hope to see you there!

Today noon-1pm is the Freestore Foodbank Healthy Harvest Mobile Market! The trailer will be located in our parking lot behind 4222 Hamilton Ave. (enter via Hobart). This market is open to all!

(The HHMM Northside schedule has changed from Mondays to Wednesdays. We’ll continue to announce the market each time as a courtesy to the community.)

The HHMM is small but mighty, packed to the brim with affordable fruits and veggies, eggs, bread, oils, spices and more.

Payments accepted: Cash, Credit/Debit, SNAP/EBT (Food Stamps), Produce Perks, Apple Pay, PRX.

Produce Perks provides a $1 for $1 match for all SNAP purchases, up to $25 in FREE produce. Bring your own bag for 10% off your total!

For more information and the current inventory list, please head to www.healthyharvestmobilemarket.com

It’s an honor to bring the mobile market to the community as a complement to the Northside Farmers Market, Morsel & Nosh, Lierer's Market, and other area grocery options. This is just one important piece of the puzzle to improve the health of the community.

This heat means I try to get my steps in early in the day!

Cincinnati has 1,000 walkable public corridors, including more than 500 alleys and almost 400 public stairs! (The current City stairway count is 383, but dozens have been abandoned and either removed or consumed by nature.) Cincinnati is actually the third leading US city for public stairways, after Pittsburgh and San Francisco.

You can find public stairs in many Cincinnati neighborhoods. They are typically unmarked and may be somewhat hidden from view. They serve an important connective function for pedestrians, and also offer an opportunity to exercise, observe local flora and enjoy scenic views. Shown here are the Glen Parker Avenue Steps in Northside.

If you’re interested in helping to preserve and beautify these unique community assets, please consider getting involved with Spring in Our Steps. The nonprofit organization has published the first-ever comprehensive map inventory of public stairways in Cincinnati!
