Women with PCOS typically overproduce LH and Testosterone.

Testosterone decreases overtime up until menopause, which can naturally improve the fertility of PCOS women as they age.

A normal LH:FSH ratio is 2:1. Women with PCOS typically exhibit 3:1 or higher, impacting ovulation.

▪️LH & FSH are secreted by the pituitary gland. LH is a precursor for progesterone to be produced by the ovaries. LH surges at the end of the follicular phase to trigger ovulation.

▪️FSH is a precursor hormone for estrogen and testosterone.

▪️Estrogen builds uterine lining and is responsible for secondary s*xual development (I.e. breast growth)

▪️Testosterone is a male s*x hormone but women do secrete testosterone in smaller amounts. A small surge in testosterone occurs during ovulation. Testosterone decreases overtime until menopause. Women with PCOS typically experience overproduction of testosterone, causing clinical symptoms such as acne, hair loss, weight gain, and/or anovulation.

▪️Progesterone prepares the uterus for pregnancy. Progesterone levels must be maintained after implantation for a viable pregnancy.

The Menstrual Cycle, also known as the Uterine Cycle, consists of 3 Phases: Me**es, Proliferation, and Secretion. Ovulation occurs on Day 14, with preparation and transition occurring in the adjacent phases. Ovulation is inconsistently considered a 4th phase.

The Ovarian Cycle consists of 2 phases: Follicular and Luteal.
