When it comes to hair loss, more testing is not always better. The right testing is what matters.

Sometimes a Hair & Scalp Evaluation gives me a clear enough picture that we know how to move forward. Other times, what I see makes me want more information before recommending a plan.

The photo I’m sharing with this post is a great example of why testing can matter. This client had already been using topical minoxidil but wasn’t seeing the success she had hoped for. Her testing gave us additional information that helped explain why minoxidil may not have been the best option for her.

Imagine continuing to use the same treatment month after month and simply assuming you need to give it more time.

This is the type of information that keeps us from guessing. It allows us to make more informed decisions and create a plan that is more likely to give that individual client the best opportunity for optimal results.

Depending on what I find during an evaluation, I may recommend blood work, DNA Hair Testing, Epigenetic Hair Testing, or additional medical evaluation. I also use Tricho Scan imaging and polarized microscopy to look closely at what is happening with the hair and scalp.

None of these tools gives us every answer on its own. They are pieces of a much bigger picture that includes your health history, timeline, scalp health, clinical findings, and goals.

I don’t believe everyone needs every test, just like I don’t believe everyone needs the same treatment. If I recommend additional testing, there should be a reason for it and an understanding of how that information could help us make better decisions.

Hair loss is rarely “just hair.”
When Amanda first came to me, she was dealing with scalp inflammation, loss of density, and enough visible scalp that she felt embarrassed wearing her hair up or even changing where she parted it.
We worked on improving her scalp health and supporting hair growth through a personalized hair restoration plan.
Today, she says she sees significantly more coverage and no longer feels embarrassed to pull her hair back or wear it parted.
That part means everything to me.
Hair restoration isn’t only about what we can see in a photograph. It’s about helping someone understand what is happening with their hair and scalp, addressing the factors we can address, and hopefully getting them back to a place where they feel comfortable and confident with their hair again.
Thank you, Amanda, for trusting me and for sharing your experience.

People always ask me “when do you where your topper I never see it?” Thats the point. You tell me🤗

You can be losing hair density without ever seeing handfuls of hair come out.
This is something I hear all the time.
“I’m really not shedding that much, but my hair is definitely thinner.”
Shedding and thinning are not necessarily the same thing.
With increased shedding, you may notice more hair in the shower, your brush, or on your clothes.
Gradual loss of density can be much quieter. Your part may slowly get wider. Your ponytail may feel smaller. You may see more scalp. Individual hairs may become finer, or follicles that once produced multiple hairs may begin producing fewer.
Because these changes can happen slowly, they’re easy to miss until one day you realize your hair just isn’t as full as it used to be.
This is exactly why I measure hair density, hairs per follicle, hair thickness and other changes during a Hair & Scalp Evaluation. What we can measure gives us a baseline so we can see what is actually happening over time.
Progress should be measured, not assumed.

This is me being a hair detective. 😂

When someone tells me, “My hair is shedding like crazy,” I don’t just want to know how much hair they’re losing. I want to know what that hair is trying to tell me.

That’s where polarized microscopy comes in. I can actually look at the shed hair under the microscope and evaluate the bulb, sheath, shaft, structure and where that hair was in its growth cycle.

Because sometimes the answers aren’t sitting on top of the scalp. Sometimes I have to put on my detective hat and look a little deeper.

This is why I’m always saying: assess and test, don’t guess.

Your hair leaves clues. My job is to find them.

How much hair shedding is normal?
Most people naturally shed between 50 and 100 hairs each day as part of the normal hair growth cycle. If you're suddenly noticing significantly more hair in the shower, on your pillow, or in your brush, it's worth investigating. Increased shedding doesn't always mean permanent hair loss, but it is a sign that something may have changed.

👇 This is what keeps me up at night in gratitude for what I get to do and the people I get to support every day!

I just wanted to thank you for all your help with the topper. I wore it to work this whole week & I truly feel pretty again! You have been such a blessing. 🥰 I'm so glad I have you in my life.

Have you noticed more hair in the shower lately? Maybe your ponytail feels thinner, or you're seeing more hair in your brush than usual.
It's easy to assume the worst, but sudden shedding doesn't automatically mean permanent hair loss.
Stress, illness, medications, hormonal changes, iron deficiency, thyroid conditions, rapid weight loss, and many other factors can all affect the hair growth cycle.
Instead of guessing, I believe in taking the time to understand what's happening. Every Hair & Scalp Evaluation starts with listening to your story, examining your scalp and hair, and putting the pieces together to create a plan that's personalized to you.
If you've been wondering why your hair is changing, you're not alone, and there are often more answers than people realize.

I love sharing before and after photos because they remind people that change is possible.

What you don't see is everything that happened before the "after."

It wasn't luck.
It wasn't a miracle product.

It started with finding out why the hair was changing in the first place.

Every person who walks through my door has a different story, which means there isn't a one size fits all solution. That's why every client starts with a Hair & Scalp Assessment. The more we understand about your hair and scalp, the better we can create a plan that's right for you.

Good hair doesn't happen by accident.

It happens when you stop guessing and start getting answers.
