‘Till the day I die, I will bleed red, white, and blue.

When I think “America”, I do not judge solely based on one aspect of our country. I think of the great forefathers who built this country: I think George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and others. When I think America, I think entertainment: In music I think of the great Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. In Comics and TV I think the creation of Marvel and all of its wonderful characters. In film I think of the many stellar productions that we have come to know as classics. When I think America, I think of the all time Sports greats: Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan. I think of human rights activists: Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X. I think economy, infrastructure, and culture: Without the United States, I believe the world’s economy would crumble. I even think of the overall sentiment of the American people; the vast majority being selfless, caring individuals. All of this is part of America’s legacy.

I have lived in and experienced many different countries. And to this day, in my mind and without a doubt, The United States of America is the greatest country in the world. Perfection will never be attained, and many of us overlook the fact that the same issues that are occurring in our country, occur in every country all over the world. This does not mean we should not fight for our rights. We are all Americans, and this is the beauty of America. America was founded on the principle of equality for all humans: Black, White, Asian, This was done purposefully to be the antithesis of the injustices occurring at that time in Europe. What this means is that we must not overlook the positives of this great country, but we must continue to strive for what we believe in. Only in this country, can a difference can be made. We are The country that leads the world. Although there may be strong division in this country at the moment, God will not foresake his people.

I salute all of those who have striven to contribute to our country, to those who have fought for our country, and to those who have made a difference for the American people. God Bless America 🇺🇸

With all of the recent coverage the media has given to the various protests and movements that have occurred within the past month, I feel it is right that I share this:

The man pictured with me above is a total stranger. The story goes that he was walking with his wife, and as I listened I heard them speaking French. Naturally, I struck up a conversation with the man and his wife as I myself am a French-speaker. When I mentioned that my family is from Senegal (a tiny country on the West African coast), the lady (to my surprise) yelled “mon mari est du Sénégal! (my husband is from Senegal!)” Immediately the man we embraced each other and spent 20 minutes speaking about everything there is to speak about.

I have always had a very special place in my heart for Senegal, and specifically for the African Senegalese people. Senegal is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever been to. Since I was young, I have only had fond memories of the warm, charismatic people there. These are people who would go to any extent to help someone in need, despite they themselves being in need. These are people who want nothing mire than to be accepted.

When play soccer in Senegal, I was taken in as a family member, not as a teammate. And this culture echoed in all aspects of life in the times I spent there. Yet despite this, I witnessed countless acts of racism while I was there.

This man was a total stranger; yet nothing could have stopped the connection we were about to make. If we come from a place of understanding, trying to gain perspective from eachother, and enjoy eachother’s presence, these “random” connections would become common.

We must pursue equality not just in waves. But at all times; and for all people.

‎سلام peace
