On September 11, 2001, America’s skies went silent. Planes carrying thousands of frightened passengers had nowhere to go — and Canada simply opened its doors.
Flights were welcomed into Gander, Halifax, St. John’s, Goose Bay, Moncton, Vancouver and other Canadian cities. In tiny Gander, thousands of strangers suddenly arrived overnight. Families opened their homes. Schools and churches became shelters. People cooked meals, found medicine, brought blankets, and cared for people they had never met.
They didn’t ask for anything in return. America was hurting, and Canada showed up.
So today, when we hear talk of turning Lake Ontario into “Lake America,” maybe it’s worth remembering what that name represents: a border shared by two neighbors — and one of those neighbors was there for America on one of the darkest days in its history.
Some names carry history. And some friendships deserve respect. 🇨🇦🤝🇺🇸

August 27 is now officially recognized as PrEP Day — a day dedicated to HIV prevention, awareness, and access.
To have my birthday connected to a cause that has shaped so much of my work is something I’ll never forget.
Proud. Grateful. And just getting started. ❤️

Addiction doesn’t always look the same from one generation to the next.
For Millennials, conversations often centered around alcohol, drugs, and other more recognizable forms of substance use. For Gen Z, compulsive behaviors can show up differently — shaped by social media, body image, consumption, risk-taking, and constant digital stimulation.
Different generation. Different pressures. Same need for empathy, prevention, and honest conversation.

Those words can feel terrifying — but an HIV diagnosis today does not mean your life is over.
Treatment works. People living with HIV can live long, healthy lives, and when someone reaches and maintains an undetectable viral load, they do not sexually transmit HIV: U=U.
