Quick question for Frisco estheticians going independent: does your suite have its own Mini-Establishment license from TDLR?

A private suite needs one, separate from the building's establishment license. Either you or the building owner can hold it, but someone has to, and it needs to be displayed inside the suite at all times. At Venus Salon Suites Frisco, esthetician tenants hold their own, so confirm the current requirement with TDLR before you book your first client.

That's step one of six in our new guide to building clientele as an independent esthetician. A rented suite starts with zero built-in client flow, so the order matters. The guide covers licensing, your warm network, local visibility, cross-referral relationships, consultation-led conversions, and retention systems. It fits if you're newly licensed with no client history, and it fits if you're leaving a spa, med spa, or commission salon to start over on your own.

If you're not sure where to begin, begin with the license.

Do you need a license to perform lymphatic drainage in Texas? On the body, yes. TDLR classifies manual lymphatic drainage as a massage technique, so it falls under the Texas massage therapist license.

A lymphatic drainage or body contouring certification shows you finished a course with a training provider. Texas doesn't treat it as a license, and it doesn't authorize you to work on a paying client. Continuing education hours can't stand in for the 500 hours of supervised coursework a massage therapist license requires, and online schools aren't accepted for initial massage licensure.

Body contouring adds another layer. TDLR routes the whole category to the Texas Medical Board, and one TDLR publication says some contouring methods are unregulated without naming which ones.

If you're a Frisco or North Dallas beauty pro thinking about adding these services to your menu, the full article lays out where the line falls before you book your first client. It reflects TDLR's classification as of September 2026 and isn't legal advice, so confirm current rules with TDLR directly.
