RELIEVE pain & tensIon. RESTORE movement. RECOVER faster. Carri Bullock, MTPT, LMT, MEd

I specialize in a unique and highly effective approach to the relief of new and chronic muscle, soft tissue, joint, and nerve pain. Advanced training in Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy and Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) are integrated with manual therapy to help identify and treat the underlying cause of pain or muscle dysfunction. I work closely with each client, customizing treatment to relieve pain, improve movement, reduce stress and restore quality of life to get you out enjoying the activities you love. My favorite part of this process is teaching self-care techniques that put the power of becoming AND staying relaxed and pain-free into my clients’ hands. Having personal experience with the frustration of trying everything to relieve chronic pain, then discovering these therapies and getting immediate, permanent relief has made me passionate about helping others enjoy a pain-free, active life. When adhesions are the root cause of restricted range of motion… melting them with myofascial trigger point therapy & FSM is a game changer for my clients. 🎯

This client’s adhesions in neck & shoulder tissues were from multiple car accidents many years ago.

Most of the time, releasing adhesions isn’t the only issue that needs addressed. His treatment goals will require treating other underlying causes, but for now he’s stoked being able to do sports & activities he loves.

‘Find & treat the underlying cause’ is not a marketing tactic, it’s literally the goal of these outcome-based therapies. 💫

What’s causing your pain, reduced mobility, numbness, or weakness?
Let’s find out!!

Staying strong on the trail with myofascial trigger point self-care.💪

I wanted to reach my goal ⛰️, so I kicked it into overdrive due to limited time constraints. On the hike out, I got a horrific cramp in my shin muscle. I literally could not put weight on my foot.

Why over doing it activates trigger points:
🎯 Muscle overload: pushing a muscle past its capacity creates micro-trauma & local metabolic tissue stress.
🎯 Reduced circulation: overexertion increases energy demands that a latent (quiet) trigger point, which already has restricted blood flow, cannot meet.
🎯 Spasm response: oxygen deprivation & waste buildup due to reduced circulation cause the hyper-irritable muscle fibers to contract involuntarily (spasm).

I used a hiking pole to work the entire tibialis anterior shin muscle, holding on the really tender areas (trigger points), which released the spasm allowing me to hike out the last few miles with full range of motion and no pain.
🤙 Good as new! 🤙

Trigger point self-care before, during, or after an activity is a game changer for athletes or anyone wanting to move better, stay active, strong, pain-free, prevent injuries, & improve performance.

This book arrived today! 🥳 I’m excited to meet Dr. Tina Wang next month at the NAMTPT conference - she will be the keynote speaker! 🤩

Dr. Wang is a distinguished physician, researcher, & educator who has made significant contributions to the fields of Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD) & Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) and is a leading authority in the role of FASCIA in these disorders.

Myofascial trigger point therapy for hypermobility disorders is a main theme of this year’s conference. 🎯 Helping hypermobile clients has somehow become a specialty of mine so I’m really looking forward to this!

I will be teaching a hands on workshop for assessment methods, posture modifications, & trigger point self-care techniques for hypermobile bodies and am excited to learn from the other experts attending this national conference. 🎉

Hypermobility is a connective tissue disorder that affects the stability of joints, fascia, and other body systems. It’s important for manual therapists to be able to recognize these characteristics & adapt treatment accordingly.

It’s true. 😂 Pretty much anything you complain to me about I will say, “There’s a trigger point for that!” 🎯

Then I’ll show you how to find & treat it yourself and help you figure out why it’s there in the first place (the underlying cause).

Clients who do their ‘homework’ report better mobility, strength, sleep, endurance and less pain. That’s not a sales pitch, that’s the results of muscles firing better due to increased blood flow to chronically tight muscle fibers. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Some feedback from clients who do trigger point self-care before or during an activity (sometimes after too!):
🚴‍♀️ No pain while cycling & not sore after long rides
🥾 Able to do steep downhill hikes without knee pain
😴 Able to sleep comfortably & change sleeping positions without pain
📞 Relieves & prevents tinnitus
🥴 Not getting dizzy with standing anymore
🏀 Less ankle pain & better mobility on the court
🤕 Relieves & prevents headaches

Where’s your pain, numbness, weakness, or restrictions? I bet I can find a trigger point for it! Come on, test me! 😉

Also, I appreciate how ChatGPT thinks I work more than I hike. 🤣

Not the first time I’ve had a client say, “I didn’t know I was hypermobile.” 🤔

It’s not within my scope of practice to diagnose hypermobility, but here are a few ways I look for clues & symptoms of this connective tissue disorder so I can create a safe & effective treatment plan:

🔍 I look for common symptoms in my detailed intake form.
🔍 Physical assessment (testing for hypermobile characteristics is one of the 1st assessments I do)
🔍 I LISTEN… a lot of clues come out subjectively during conversation

The feedback listed in this testimonial image was given 6 days after our first session, here’s her story:

Treatment Goals:
address pain & stiffness in wrists & forearms, sensitivity to touch, chronic pain (TMJ & fascia everywhere feels ‘frozen’), wants to be able to work in garden & on arts & crafts.

Intake & listening clues:
Symptom chart had 12 body areas marked, all at joints, all listing ‘pain, weakness, tightness’
Occipital neuralgia
Joint pain & weakness
Poor posture
Bruises easily
Dizziness
Sits on one leg
GI issues, constipation
Can’t get comfortable to sleep
Falls a lot/ clumsy
Feels like she needs to pop joints a lot
Tends to throw back out when sneezing or coughing
As a little kid, wrists used to dislocate when parents held her hand while walking 👀

Physical assessment:
Beighton score: 9/9 (joint range of motion in thumbs, pinkies, elbows, knees, & spine)

Other ‘bendy’ areas:
finger tips, shoulders (said pops out of socket a lot - same with hips), neck extension (head almost laying on upper back)

Normally for chronic wrist pain & restricted mobility I would release adhesions & scar tissue and do active myofascial trigger point therapy (which includes stretching). This would exacerbate symptoms for anyone with hypermobility. 😬

Instead, I did a nervous system & vagus nerve reset, connective tissue protocol, & safely treated (and showed her how to find & treat) trigger points that refer to the wrist & arm.

Myofascial trigger point therapy & FSM are results-based therapies that can help improve many symptoms of HSD & hEDS.

These guys are hysterical, as well as knowledgeable. It would be fun to field test this course for my hypermobile clients and perhaps gain some strength for my wiggly SI joint. 💪🤸‍♀️
