🍅 FIRST BLACK BEAUTY TOMATO OF THE SEASON! 🍅
The wait is finally over!
Our very first harvest of the highly sought-after Black Beauty tomato is now available at The Rusty Rake Homestead. This rare heirloom variety is organically grown and is known for its stunning dark, almost black coloring and rich, complex flavor.
Black Beauty is not a quick tomato to grow. Under ideal conditions, it takes approximately 80 days to mature, making it one of the longest-growing tomatoes in the garden. Between the extended growing time and our commitment to organic practices, these tomatoes are truly a labor of love.
This first harvest weighs in at 2.73 pounds. At roughly $4 per pound, it would price out to nearly $11, but I’m offering this beautiful heirloom tomato for an even $10.
If you’ve never tried a Black Beauty tomato before, this is your chance to experience one of the most unique heirloom varieties available. First come, first served!

The recent lettuce recalls are a reminder that “organic” doesn’t automatically mean local, and it doesn’t always mean you know where your food came from. Many of the organic products sold by large retailers are sourced through the same massive growing operations and distribution networks. When contamination happens, it can affect consumers across the country.
That’s one reason I believe more people should know their farmer.
My organically grown Music hardneck garlic is now fully cured and available for $15 per pound. Every bulb was grown right here at The Rusty Rake Homestead. I don’t buy produce from wholesalers and resell it as farm-fresh. Unfortunately, that practice is more common than many people realize at some farm stands and farmers markets. If I didn’t grow it, I don’t sell it.
My garlic is grown without synthetic chemicals using compost, worm castings, and natural fertilizers. When you buy from me, you know exactly where it was grown and who grew it.
Music garlic is known for its large cloves, excellent flavor, long storage life, and high allicin content, the natural compound that gives garlic many of its beneficial properties. Stored properly, it can last for many months and often up to a year.
Most families use garlic far more often than lettuce, so if you’re going to buy something local, this is a great place to start. Garlic, onions, and potatoes are crops that grow directly in the soil, and for me that’s even more reason to choose organically grown whenever possible.
Know your farmer. Know where your food comes from. Support the people who are actually growing it.

We’re starting with what we’re calling The Classics:

Each kit includes a 24-ounce cup with a sippable lid, your soda, and cream. Just add ice, pour, top with cream, and enjoy your very own sippable float!
Think old-fashioned root beer floats and cream soda floats with a nostalgic twist. They remind us of the kind of treat you might have enjoyed at a vintage soda counter back in the day.
We’re keeping it simple to start, but if these are a hit, there may be more flavor combinations coming in the future. 😉
