Well, this was a fun surprise! 😊 This past weekend, a local Lansing-area content creator stopped by the farmstand and shared his experience with his TikTok followers. I actually didn’t meet him or even know who he was at the time. I found out afterward when I saw that he had shared The Rusty Rake Homestead with his followers!

He’s a local social media creator who is also connected with the Lansing Lugnuts, so it was pretty cool to discover that our little farmstand caught his attention. ❤️

I’ll share a video in the comments of a local news interview with him and David Andrews, where he talks about his own weight-loss journey and his passion for helping break the stigma surrounding obesity. I enjoyed learning a little more about him after the fact!

You just never know who might stop by the farmstand! 🌻🥚🍪

Are you team pumpkin pie or apple pie??

There’s something pretty neat about blue eggs… they aren’t all the same blue! 💙🥚🩵

I put three very different blue eggs together today, and I thought it was fun to see the difference.

🥚 Far left: This one is actually from one of my Coturnix quail. She’s just started laying, and this is an extra large egg. I have a feeling this one may be a double yolker! It’s definitely bigger than a typical quail egg.

🥚 Middle: This is from Charlene, one of my new Cream Legbar layers. Her egg looks almost gray compared to the other two, but it really is a beautiful pale blue.

🥚 Far right: This one is from one of my Whiting True Blue pullets. I don’t know which girl laid it yet, but it’s a beautiful blue. It’s actually a little bluer in person than the photo shows.

And notice the size difference! The two chicken eggs are still smaller because they’re pullet eggs, while that little quail egg is an absolute giant for a quail egg.

Three eggs. Three different shades of blue. Nature really does have a pretty amazing paint palette. 💙🩵
