I love a good working woman Wednesday especially on an awareness day such as this one.

World Maternal Mental Health Day was a powerful and meaningful opportunity to gather for the inaugural Whole Minds, Whole Mothers Symposium: Grounded in Experience, Shaped by Innovation, Informed by Policy.

After more than a year of thoughtful planning, collaboration, and visioning, it was incredibly rewarding to see this symposium come to life in such a meaningful and impactful way. Witnessing the conversations, connections, and collective passion throughout the day was truly inspiring and a reminder of what is possible when people come together with a shared purpose.

This convening brought together many different community leaders in the form of advocates, providers, researchers, clinicians, and most importantly mothers from across the Greater Houston area who are deeply committed to improving maternal behavioral health outcomes and strengthening support for mothers and families.

My charitable organization, The Mama Mission Project was honored to serve as one of the sponsors for this important event and support a space centered on advancing maternal mental health, equity, and community-driven solutions. I look forward to supporting this event again in the future.

I’m truly grateful to serve alongside such an incredible group of leaders and advocates. A very special thanks to Karla J. Bautista, MPH, CHW and Marcellina Melvin for supporting the vision for this symposium, and to the advisory committee and dedicated team members whose expertise, passion, and commitment helped bring this event to life.

The work to improve maternal behavioral health continues, and I’m grateful to be part of a community that is committed to creating systems, spaces, and solutions that support whole mothers and whole families.

I appreciate and deeply respect each and every one of you.

It was such a beautiful and informative event bringing mothers and families as well as birth workers and maternal and family health professionals together to support and educate each other in the same space. Such a great and staple event in our community. Looking forward to next year!

As a mother, maternal health advocate, and community leader, I wear many hats—but all with the same mission: to uplift, educate, and empower. Whether I’m speaking on a maternal health panel, accepting an award for supporting families in Alief, or chairing the City of Houston’s Local Action Plan for My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Milestone One, my focus is clear—ensuring every child enters school ready and every mother and family has the tools to thrive. My work, alongside some of the best and most passionate, bridges lived experience and public health practice, blending research, community voice, and policy to address disparities and drive real change. I lead with both heart and purpose, committed to shaping systems that center equity, dignity, and wellness for all.
