Science Working for Us. Science Working Against Us.
Yesterday I attended a presentation on a promising cancer treatment approach: activate drugs with light only where they’re needed, helping spare healthy tissue.
It got me thinking about an irony.
The same scientific method can be used for very different goals.
One path uses science to precisely target disease.
Another path uses science to precisely target cravings, attention, and repeat purchases.
Then there are unintended consequences. Neu5Gc, purified sugar, and excess saturated fat each follow different biological pathways, but all can contribute to inflammatory signals that may affect the body over time.
The point isn’t fear.
The point is awareness.
When we understand what’s influencing our choices and biology, we can make better ones.
