Being a hairstylist is one of the most rewarding careers we can have. It’s also one of the most personal. Over the years our clients become so much more than appointments in a book—they become part of our lives and our hearts.

Yesterday I lost one of my dearest clients of 25 years. Carol wasn’t just an every-four-week appointment, she was family. She was like a second mom to me.

She was the biggest Kansas City Chiefs fan, and we had the best banter back and forth about the games. Over the years she was there for so many of my life’s biggest moments—my wedding, the birth of my children, and so many milestones in between. And I was lucky enough to share in many moments of her life as well, through both the good times and the hard ones.

Carol loved traveling the world, but more than anything she loved her family. She brought so much warmth, laughter, and loyalty into my life and into my chair.

This one hurts deeply. Twenty-five years of conversations, laughs, and memories that I will carry with me forever.

Carol, rest peacefully. Thank you for trusting me all these years and for being such a beautiful part of my life. Please watch over all of us down here. ❤️

This mother experienced a first today. Kawika requested a barber haircut. At first, it felt strange not cutting his hair. Then, it was pleasant to sit back and watch a barber work. We went to support ,my newest associates boyfriend, , in his profession. He did a fabulous job. Why not support one another? This world would be much better if we showed love to others and avoided competition.
