IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
The last several weeks have been a challenge for myself and my business. Technical and medical issues forced the cancellation of my fall launch, and in the interim, I've thought long and hard about the future of AlternAroma Soaps.

I started this business first as a creative outlet. Sales come second. I only started the business to share the piles of soap and body products that I was enjoying making with others. My goal was never success, but rather just to recoup some of my material costs and share all of the extra products that are just too much for me to personally use.

Then, I got it in my head that I need more products and more variations, and it stopped being about creating for fun. I started chasing my tail and burned myself out.

So, coming into 2026, the way I run AlternAroma Soaps is going to change. I'm not sure what that's going to look like, but I have a few ideas bouncing around in my head. At the beginning of the year, the site will go on pause and I'll relaunch at the end of Q1/beginning of Q2 under a new format.

In the meantime, beginning midnight CST November 25th (just a few hours away!) enjoy 40% everything remaining on the site except soap saver bags - those will still be $1.50 each or one free with every 3 bars of soap purchased. Some items have been pulled from the site and are not available at this time, but everything else is on sale.

I want to thank everyone for their love and support so far. You all have been great and I appreciate every single one of you!

We are still having issues updating the online store. :( I have a support ticket in with Shopify, and the website is functional as far as current products, but I am still unable to add the new products. So, if you need to place an order, you still can, but unfortunately I have to once again postpone the launch of the new soaps. I'm frustrated to say the least, and even though I love Shopify's platform as far as exposure, Shop Pay, and other features, I am looking into other options if this doesn't get resolved quickly. Thank you for your patience.

Due to unforseen issues that have arisen when updating our online store, the fall soap launch has been postponed until noon CDT on Wednesday, October 1st. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I was going to wait until they were all ready to post photos of the new soaps after the cut, but I was so pleased with how this one turned out that I couldn't wait to share! I wasn't expecting the inside to look this good when the top ended up messier than I wanted, but it's so pretty and swirly! The batter was misbehaving and had traced super thick when I was glopping it into the mold, so I was expecting a hot mess, but this turned out pretty close to how I'd originally planned it to look!

This is the one that is scented with notes of apple, brown sugar, greenery, warm spices, vanilla and woods. I haven't named any of them yet, but that's coming when I post all of the final bars here in a few days.

Made a couple more batches tonight. The one on the left is scented with notes of apple, brown sugar, greenery, warm spices, vanilla and woods. It's more of a traditional autumn scent, but still not too run of the mill.

The one on the right has notes of black plum, myrrh, orange, fig, black amber, labdanum, oud and forest moss. It's deep and dark and slightly fruity. It has a "wet leaves in a dark graveyard on a full moon night" feel to it. I love it. It's mysterious, autumnal and a bit creepy. Gothy/witchy vibes for sure. This is the exact type of scent I was envisioning when I named my business.

Soapmaking is part craft, part art, a lot of science, and often it's chaos and is having to think on your feet and fix things in a hurry. And that's what happened to me twice tonight.

The loaf on the left started to volcano and ruined my top design, so I had to just smash it down and work with it. The loaf on the right, I made a rookie mistake. I had all of my oils measured out, then measured out my water and additives...then measured my master batched lye solution directly into the water - and accidentally added too much. I did some quick calculations and realized that my superfat wasn't going to offset the difference enough, so I had to calculate just how much extra oils I needed. Then, because I wasn't 100% confident in my fast calculations, I threw in even more oils just in case. This one's going to have a nice, rich superfat amount.

I also re-read my notes on the fragrance oil after I mixed in the color and realized it was noted for dark discoloration, so we'll have to wait and see if I get a dark red or just brown out of this one.

Soapmaking is always an adventure. And of course, there's some spillage on the table everywhere because my arthritis was acting up and making my hands tremor some. I was going to make a couple more batches tonight, but after all of that, I'll just start over again tomorrow. I love this craft, but it can be very challenging at times!!

These do smell great though. The smaller one is scented with notes of damp leaves and woods, autumn fruits and gourds, spices and patchouli. It also has almost a camphoric note to my nose. In fact, to me it smells a bit like original Carmex, in a good way. I really love it.

The larger loaf is the return of one of my original test batch scents, a sweet cranberry and rhubarb scent. I already have a cranberry scent in my fall lineup, but they're very different, so it's worth having both.

These are coming September 27th at alternaromasoaps.com!

Been working on some new fall soaps to be released on September 27th. As you can see, some will be smaller/limited batches, so be prepared to grab a bar when they go on sale if you want one!

I haven't named these yet, but the bar on the left is scented with notes of cranberry, bourbon, black currant, pomegranate, apple, fir, cherry wood, birch wood and amber. It's cranberry forward for sure, but way more complex than a lot of other cranberry scents.

The larger batch in the middle is scented with notes of dried autumn fruits, autumn leaves, apple, cinnamon and white musk. It's very similar to a popular "leafy" fragrance at that lotion and candle shop in the mall. 😉 It's one of my all time favorite scents, which is why it got the honor of a big batch - ya girl's holding back a few bars for herself! 😂

The one on the right is another I'm excited about. It's fall, you have to have a pumpkin scent, right? But pumpkin can be boring... pumpkin spice, pumpkin latte, pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread...blah, blah. I'm over it. This one is fun. It's pumpkin flesh, roasted pumpkin seeds, cinnamon, clove...and a big kick of anise! If you "Irished up" your PSL with a shot of anisette or sambuca, you'd come pretty close to the vibe of this one.

Available September 27th at noon CDT at alternaromasoaps.com!
