Eating disorders don’t have one “look,” and inclusive eating disorder treatment shouldn’t be one-size-fits-all either.

Your story, identity, body, culture, and lived experiences all shape your relationship with food and your body. The right support should make space for those experiences without assumptions about what an eating disorder is “supposed” to look like.

Inclusive care can mean:
• Listening to your lived experience
 • Using respectful, non-shaming language
 • Addressing body image and weight stigma
 • Creating treatment goals that reflect your individual needs

We’re exploring this more in our newest blog, “Beyond Stereotypes: What Inclusive Eating Disorder Treatment Really Means.”

If you’ve ever wondered what inclusive care actually looks like or what to look for in a provider, this is a great place to start.

Baby blues or something more?
Feeling weepy, on edge, or overwhelmed in the first days after birth is common and often eases on its own within about two weeks. When the sadness, worry, or numbness hangs on longer, feels heavier, or makes daily life and baby care hard, it may be more than the baby blues.
You do not have to wait until you are at a breaking point to ask for help. If you feel unlike yourself, talk with your doctor or a mental health professional, and lean on trusted people around you.
Want a clearer breakdown of baby blues vs postpartum depression and when to reach out? Read the full blog post on our website (link in bio).

You can struggle with food long before anything on your plate looks “wrong.”

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone:
• You feel safest when you’re in control and “put together.”
• You say yes when you want to say no, especially around food.
• A small slip makes you feel like you ruined the whole day.
• You apologize a lot and avoid conflict, even when it costs you.

These can be early signs that perfectionism and people-pleasing are shaping your relationship with food and your body.

Noticing the pattern is a kind step, not a verdict. If this resonates, it may be time to get curious about what these rules are trying to protect and to remember that your needs don’t have to be earned.

Ever notice you keep having the same fight, just wearing a different outfit? Same tone, same wall going up, same feeling of talking past each other instead of to each other?

Dr. John Gottman calls these patterns the Four Horsemen: criticism, contempt, defensiveness, and stonewalling. Research shows they’re some of the strongest predictors of relationship breakdown.

The good news? These are learned habits, not fixed traits. Which means they can be unlearned too.

Have a niche and be good at that

Have a village, because no one should ever have to do this alone. And no one should ever be turned away for asking for help.

Here I’m referencing a group that I run with Caroline at The Body, Birth and Baby Center
