Unaware of the Dartmouth write-up in Essence Magazine, I was pleasantly surprised! This marks my third feature in Essence, and what makes it truly special is the privilege of being recognized among the most brilliant beauty brands in the industry today. Owning a small Black own business is hard. It can effect your mental health more than ever. THEBRAIDRELEASER was a passion project to continue my mother’s legacy and give my mother her flowers while she is here. I’m not sure what I thought would happen with this business or understood the amount of blood, sweat and tears needed for it to succeed. The honest truth, I wasn’t mentally ready. The endless investor calls, the NOs, the yeses too. I had to take a break from it all. Failing doesn’t feel good and I was failing fast BUT things changed!

I am so grateful for the break, reflection and peace I gained throughout this experience. I am hopeful our business will continue to make waves in the hair industry…

I recalibrated and shops open ! All orders will now be fulfilled in Los Angeles and I will forever be indebted to for holding us down for so long. ❤️
