My 8-year-old neutered male domestic shorthair has seemed really depressed since yesterday, and heās been like this all morning. He has a vet appointment tomorrow, but Iām worried.
He isnāt fully closing his eyes when he sleepsāhe just keeps them partly openāand his breathing seems a bit faster than normal. Is there anything I can do to help keep him comfortable until his appointment?

My cat ate an entire bag of these. Will she be okay?
**Update:** I contacted them, and they said she should be fine. She may just have an upset stomach.

Strange white film on my catās eyes ā has anyone seen this before?
**TL;DR:** My 14-year-old female cat developed a strange white film on her eyes after surgery. A veterinary ophthalmologist isnāt sure what it is.
My cat had surgery in February for urinary-related issues, and after the operation, she developed this unusual white film over her eyes. It looks very superficial, almost like itās sitting on the outermost layer of the eyeball.
I took her to a veterinary ophthalmologist, but she wasnāt completely sure what it was. She mentioned it *could* be calcium deposits, although she said it didnāt really look like typical calcium. She also brought up the possibility of something related to hyperthyroidism, but wasnāt confident about that either. She suggested surgical removal, but unfortunately itās too expensive for me right now.
Weāve been treating her with two different eye drops ā one regular medication and one meant for calcium deposits ā but it doesnāt seem to be improving. We also ran tests: her calcium levels are normal, and there are no signs of hyperthyroidism.
Has anyone experienced something like this with their cat? Do you know what it could be?
Her vision still seems okay, and she doesnāt appear to be blind, but Iām worried because one eye is starting to show vascularization, which I know may not be a good sign.

**Update: Two strays showed up with the same tail injury(?)**
I took the tuxedo cat to the vet to have his tail checked. The vet couldnāt say for sure what caused it, but they said it did **not** look like abuse. I still have my reservations, but Iām really hoping thatās the case rather than the alternative.
They shaved the area, cleaned it, and gave him antibiotics. Now that the area is easier to see, I can tell there are three separate small wounds. He is not neutered, so we made an appointment with our regular clinic, and luckily they were able to get him in tomorrow.
Heās a little nervous, but heās doing well in the bathroom. Heās finally starting to feel comfortable enough to eat and is even coming up to me for pets. Heās a very sweet little boy.
Iāll add some photos in the thread. Thank you again to everyone who commented and helped.

**Original post:**
Iām an adult in California, and a vet is accessible if needed. We have a lot of strays in the neighborhood, so we leave dry food out for them and give wet food to the regulars.
Recently, two new strays started showing up separately. The smaller tabby appears to have visible ni***es, so we thought she might be pregnant. She also has an indentation in the middle of her tail, almost as if something had been tied around it, like a rubber band. It could possibly be an old injury, but she is very skittish, so we havenāt been able to get close enough to check.
The second newcomer is a grey tuxedo cat. He has been coming around for a few weeks, and today we noticed he had the same kind of mark on his tail. He is very food-motivated, so I was able to briefly touch it. There is missing fur, it was not bleeding, and it felt a little sticky. He didnāt seem to react as if it hurt when I touched it.
Does anyone have any insight into what this could be? We are worried someone may be intentionally hurting these cats. Thank you.
**Edit:**
Adding a little more information. The tabby showed up about two weeks ago with her tail already looking like that. The tuxedo started showing up about a month ago here and there, and over the last few weeks he has been here daily for wet food. Tonight was the first time we noticed his tail looked the same, which felt too strange to be a coincidence.
We think the tuxedo may live somewhere up the block. We know the tabby stays across the street. Since we moved here, that neighbor has had a lot of strays living around their property, and many of them come into our backyard. I donāt know exactly what the situation is over there, but we have TNRād as many as we can and found homes for some of the cats who werenāt too feral.
Itās hard to believe that, even though they have been irresponsible by allowing the cats to keep reproducing, they would now start hurting them. But we are probably going to talk to them.
Our plan is to try to get the tuxedo into a carrier or trap and have a vet look at him this week, if we can catch him. The tabby seems much more feral. Hopefully we can get more information soon.

This little one showed up at my house, and Iām still trying to wrap my head around what happened to her. š„ŗ
Before anything else, my local animal control officer, who is a trusted family friend, came and picked her up so she could be checked out properly.
I had just gotten home and was still sitting in my car when I saw her walk up and crawl under the front of it. I got out carefully, not knowing if she might be scared or aggressive, but she turned out to be the sweetest, calmest cat. She walked right into my mudroom like she had lived in a house before, and she even wanted to come inside further, but I have other cats, so I kept her separate.
I gave her some wet food, and she ate like she was absolutely starving. She was so thin in person that it honestly broke my heart. I cried seeing her like that. Her skin didnāt feel infected to me, and she wasnāt acting strangely ā just exhausted, hungry, and in need of help.
At first, I thought she was a neutered male, but I later found out sheās actually female. She had no microchip, and the humane society has named her Sand Dollar. They believe she may be a senior cat. They also found that she has hyperthyroidism, which can cause weight loss and coat issues, and she may have been shaved because of severe matting. Theyāre also treating her for possible mange and giardia, and she still has more testing ahead.
The good news is that sheās safe now, being treated, and on the road to recovery. ā¤ļøāš©¹
Iāve let them know that Iām interested in adopting her if she needs a home. It may take weeks or even months before sheās healthy enough to leave their care, but Iāll be checking in on her every week and hoping for the best.
Thank you to everyone who cared about this sweet girl and offered advice. Iāll keep updating when I know more. She deserves a soft, safe, loving life after everything sheās clearly been through. š

**Adult male cat refuses to groom himself ā any ideas?**
Hi everyone! Last April, my partner and I adopted our neutered male cat, Electron. He was an adult rescue, estimated to be around 3ā4 years old, though we think he may be younger. We live in Texas, and he is strictly indoors. We suspect he may have been someoneās pet before, as he was rescued during a flood.
Since adopting him, weāve noticed that he barely grooms himself. He will occasionally lick around his tummy or sides, but he never really gives himself a proper bath.
He is not overweight, and our vet says he is healthy. He has had his a**l glands expressed twice because he scoots on our rugs. The vet mentioned that some cats just do not clean themselves well, but we were not given a specific reason.
Because he gets very greasy and matted around his tail, weāve had to bathe him a few times with cat shampoo. He tolerates baths surprisingly well, but even afterward, he still does not groom himself. After just a few pets and scritches, his fur looks messy and clumpy again.
He also drinks a lot of water and mostly eats dry food. We have tried adding wet food, but it has not improved his grooming. We have also tried tiny amounts of butter and Churu, but nothing seems to motivate him. If our dog licks him, he happily accepts it, but he still will not lick himself afterward.
Iām starting to develop allergies around him because he is basically turning into a little dust bunny.
The second-to-last photo shows what his fur looks like when I pet it in the direction it is supposed to lay.
**TLDR:** We adopted an adult neutered male cat who refuses to properly groom himself. He is healthy according to the vet, but he gets greasy, matted, and dusty. Has anyone dealt with this before or found a reason/solution?
Thank you so much for any insight!

Why does my cat smell so good???
He always smells sweet, like a powdered donut or just like sugar in general. His mouth and ass smell like ass, but every furred part of him is like burying my face in laundry, to his general chagrin. He's 11, neutered, not diabetic, doesn't have access to soap or the laundry, we use unscented litter, he hasn't had a bath since a ringworm infection 9 years ago, licks himself with that same foul tongue, and yet he's as floral as the Portland Rose Garden. He also has the thickest fur of any cat I've ever had. His name is Charlie.

[SOLVED]

Cat wonāt stop peeing on my bed
Hi all,
My cat (female) is about 3 years old but weāve had her for around 2 and a half. For the past year, she has been non stop peeing on my bed, whether that be on my pillows or blankets. This is usually every other day, but weāre lucky if the blanket lasts 3 days.
Weāve taken her to three separate vets, and all of them have said she seems to be all good. One put her on medication for her urinary tract but that only helped for about a week before she started peeing again.
Weāve tried adding a third litter box, using calming sprays and deodorisers, even getting new bed sheets and blankets, but nothing seems to work. I donāt know if itās an emotional issue or a physical issue but itās getting to a point where weāre getting fed up. Any advice would be helpful.
