What Is One Healthy Habit You Wish You Had Started Earlier?

Health is not about doing everything perfectly. Sometimes, it is the small habits we build over time that make the biggest difference.

Maybe it is drinking more water.
Taking daily walks.
Getting better sleep.
Cooking more meals at home.
Setting boundaries.
Making time for yourself.
Eating more fruits and vegetables.
Going to your annual checkups.
Or simply learning to listen to your body.

There is no age limit on starting a healthier habit, and there is no such thing as being “too late.”

I want to hear from you:

What is one healthy habit you wish you had started earlier in life?

Share it in the comments. You might give someone else an idea they decide to start today.

I Didn’t Start My Journey Because I Hated My Body.

When people see my before-and-after photos, I think it is easy to assume that I must have hated the way I looked before.

I didn’t.

I was 15 years old when I started changing my habits, and my motivation was much more complicated than wanting to be smaller.

I wanted to feel better. I wanted to have more energy. I wanted to build healthier habits and learn how to take care of myself in a way that actually fit my life.

I also didn’t have access to everything people often associate with a “healthy lifestyle.” I wasn’t going to an expensive gym or following a restrictive meal plan. A lot of my journey happened at home, through walking, cooking, grocery shopping, and finding ways to make the foods I already loved work for me.

That distinction is important to me because I don’t want my story to send the message that you need to hate your body before you are allowed to make changes.

You can want to improve your health without believing there is something wrong with you.

You can want to move more without punishing yourself.

You can make changes to your eating habits without giving up your culture.

And you can pursue better health without making weight loss the measure of your worth.

I lost 115 pounds, but the number on the scale is not the most important part of my story.

The habits, knowledge, confidence, and relationship with health that I built along the way are what I carried with me.

You do not have to hate your body to take care of it.

15 → 17 → 23 🤍

i grew up in los angeles in a low-income, first-generation mexican and iranian family, and i learned early on that health is shaped by so much more than individual choices. access to affordable food, safe places to move, time, resources, healthcare, community, and the environment you grow up in can all shape your ability to be healthy

my own experiences eventually led me to study political science and race & ethnicity at ucla, work in holistic health programming, and become a health coach

your health journey should fit your life, not the other way around. 🫶🏼
