Our founder kicked off Fall Sabbath with a family trip to Chicago and a visit to the Obama Presidential Center. And somehow, completely by accident, she got to meet Ruby Bridges and grab a picture with her. We had NO idea she was even going to be there.
One of the reasons we take Sabbath seriously at Reviving Roots is because rest isn’t just about laying down somewhere. Sometimes it’s getting out of your regular routine, spending time with your people, learning something, doing something just because you want to, and having enough space in your life to actually enjoy it.
The Obama Center was already worth the trip. Getting to experience it with family and then randomly meeting Ruby Bridges while we were there was just really damn cool.
Anyway, Sabbath is off to a pretty good start. 😂🤎

It’s that time again 🍂
We’re heading into our Fall Sabbath, which means the Reviving Roots team is taking some intentional time to slow down, step away, and REST.
We talk a lot about listening to our bodies around here—and sometimes the message is simply: you need to sit down somewhere. 😂
So we’re practicing what we preach.
We believe rest should be part of the rhythm, not something we only reach for once we’re exhausted. We’ll be stepping away from our usual programming and communication during Sabbath and coming back with a little more room to breathe.
See y’all on the other side. 🤎

Therapy AND the things that help us feel alive in our bodies. We like both. 🤎
Reviving Roots is a Black-centered mental health + wellness space in Minneapolis where care can look like therapy, yoga, movement, rest, laughter and being in community.
And every other Saturday, we offer donation-based wellness classes because taking care of ourselves should actually be accessible.
Come be well with us.
Seven years of Reviving Roots. 🖤
Yes, we do therapy. Good therapy. Black-centered, culturally grounded, whole-human therapy.
But somewhere along the way, we realized healing needed more room.
Room to move. To rest. To laugh. To eat together. To learn. To breathe. To be held. To find your people. To feel good in your body. To not have to explain yourself before you can exhale.
So we built more than a therapy practice.
We built a community of wellness.
Seven years of Black folks healing, gathering, resting, moving, laughing, learning and choosing ourselves — together.
And we’re still growing.
Happy 7 years to Reviving Roots. 🌱

Third annual Black Healers Brunch. 🖤 We keep bringing it back because y’all keep reminding us how much spaces like this are needed.
At Reviving Roots, we wanted to create a container where Black healers didn’t have to hold anybody else for a few hours. Where we could eat good (thank you, Pimento Jamaican Kitchen), move our bodies (thank you, Chance York), be held (thank you, Dr. Sheila Sweeney), laugh, connect—and REST.
We spent time with The Nap Ministry Rest Is Resistance and sat with the question: how do we keep encouraging our people to rest if we aren’t practicing it ourselves?
So we practiced.
We ate. We moved. We laughed. We laid down. We let ourselves be held.
Three years in, and this is still one of our favorite spaces to hold. 🌿

Meet Chantell. She's not doing one-size-fits-all therapy — she wants your actual story, your actual life, not a template. If a therapist has ever missed where you were coming from, that's exactly what she's trying to change. She's taking new clients.

Meet Enitan. He spent years working in special ed before he made the switch to counseling, and it shows in how he shows up — steady, present, hard to rattle. He's especially drawn to working with Black teens and young adults carrying a lot from systems that let them down. He's taking clients now.

Meet Kerlande. She's spent years working closely with kids and families, and honestly, you can tell — she's patient in a way that's not easy to fake. She won't rush you or push you somewhere you're not ready for. She'll just walk with you. She's got openings right now if that's the kind of support you're looking for.

Meet Esther. Her approach, boiled down, is that you don't need to be fixed — you need room to reconnect with yourself. That's really it. She's taking new clients now, and we'd love to connect you with her.
