Vascular disease is a condition that affects the blood vessels, leading to reduced or blocked blood flow to various parts of the body. The progression of vascular disease often starts with damage to the inner lining of the arteries, typically caused by factors like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, or diabetes. Over time, fatty deposits (plaque) build up on the artery walls, a condition known as atherosclerosis. As the plaque hardens and narrows the arteries, it restricts blood flow, leading to symptoms like pain, fatigue, and, in advanced stages, organ damage or heart attack. Without proper management, vascular disease can progressively worsen, increasing the risk of life-threatening complications such as stroke, heart disease, or peripheral artery disease (PAD). Early detection and treatment are essential to slow its progression and prevent severe outcomes.
