Today is World Environment Day. It stresses the importance of everyone’s participation in environment and animal conservation. This year, the theme is ‘Celebrating Biodiversity’. Just as we must respect and celebrate ethnic and racial diversity, we also must celebrate biodiversity. We must not discriminate against the planet by exploiting animals and polluting it! Wrightia tinctoria is an important ayurvedic medicinal plant. Wrightia is named after Scottish physician and botanist William Wright (1740-1827). The bark, seeds and crushed fresh leaves have traditionally been mixed with coconut oil for an effective skin treatment. It has anti-psoriatic activity, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-dandruff properties and is used in hair preparations for its various medicinal properties. In recent research studies the bark extract also demonstrated prominent antioxidant activity. Wrightia tinctoria is an important medicinal plant with a diverse pharmacological spectrum. 🌿

This incredible lichen is Parmelia perlata (Stone Flower). In a 2019 study, researchers confirmed its potent anti-inflammatory activity. This traditional herb has been used in Ayurveda for the treatment of skin and localized swelling, due to its inhibition of the inflammation process. Although it has finally been substantiated for its many benefits, it’s full potential has not yet been fully explored.
