Jacques d’Amboise, Charismatic Star of City Ballet, Is Dead at 86 He helped popularize ballet with an all-American style, combining the nonchalance of Fred Astaire with the nobility of a classic male dancer. Hollywood came calling, too.

This is so distressing and a huge loss to a community that is already struggling and losing so much.

Jacob’s Pillow is the site of the oldest and longest running summer dance festival. It was bought and curated originally by Ted Shawn and Ruth St Denis for Shawn’s dream of an all male dance company. It was saved from financial hardship by ballet dancers Anton Dolin and Alicia Markova and millionaire Reginald Wright and continues curating dances to this day.

Or at least it did. My sincere hope is that the dance community once again comes together to revive this important cultural landmark of dance history. We owe it to ourselves to do what we can to ensure this survives.
