I know this feeling because asthma isn’t something I simply learned about — I was born with it and grew up living with it.

One minute you’re breathing normally, going about your day, traveling, laughing, living… and the next, a trigger can make breathing suddenly become difficult.

That’s why I never want anyone to dismiss shortness of breath, wheezing, chest tightness, or a rescue inhaler that isn’t giving the expected relief. A severe asthma attack can become a medical emergency.

For those who developed asthma later in life: please don’t underestimate it just because yesterday you felt completely fine.

There currently isn’t a permanent cure for asthma, but for many people it can be well controlled with the right treatment plan — knowing your triggers, taking prescribed controller medications when indicated, carrying your rescue medication, using proper inhaler technique, and having an asthma action plan.

🚨 Severe trouble breathing, difficulty speaking because of breathlessness, blue/gray lips or skin, confusion/drowsiness, or symptoms that don’t improve with prescribed rescue treatment require emergency medical attention.

Asthma may be part of our story, but it doesn’t have to stop us from traveling, dreaming, exploring and living fully. ✈️🩷🫁
