Introducing the Studio Hair® Prosthetic's Try‑On Assistant
As part of our commitment to accessibility and innovation, we’re pleased to share an early preview of our new Try‑On Assistant—created for clients, partners, and providers who may be unable to visit the studio or whose schedules make in‑person consultations difficult.
When you log into any of our products, look for the purple Try‑On button located at both the top and bottom of each product page. Select the shade you’d like to explore from the drop‑down color list, then press Try‑On. You’ll be prompted to sign in, and from there, the system will guide you through the experience.
During this early phase, Try‑Ons are limited to six per week as we continue refining and completing the tool.
This is a sneak peek, and while it already reflects the precision you expect from Studio Hair® we anticipate a few bumps as we prepare for full‑time launch. Your feedback is invaluable as we shape a seamless, supportive remote consultation experience.
Thank you for being part of this evolution.🌿

Studio Hair® — Update for Partners, Providers & Clients
An Update from Studio Hair®
2026 Insurance Update: Expanded Coverage for Cranial Hair Prostheses
We are sharing an important update for patients, providers, and healthcare partners regarding insurance coverage for Cranial Hair Prostheses in 2026. These changes impact individuals experiencing medical hair loss from chemotherapy, autoimmune conditions, dermatologic
disorders, and medication-induced alopecia.
Why 2026 Matters
Across the U.S., new legislation and insurer policy shifts are moving cranial prostheses out of the "cosmetic" category and into medically necessary devices. This means broader eligibility for reimbursement and clearer documentation pathways for providers.
Key 2026 Changes
- State-mandated coverage is expanding for medically prescribed cranial prostheses.
- Reimbursement caps are increasing, often between $500–$1,200 depending on the plan.
- More approvals for cancer-related and autoimmune-related hair loss.
- Standardized documentation requirements across insurers.
State-Level Examples
- New York – W.I.G. Act: Coverage for 1 cranial prosthesis every 12 months, reimbursement up to $750, applies to medically documented hair loss, including chemotherapy and autoimmune conditions.
- California – AB 2668: Coverage for 1 medical wig per year, reimbursement up to $750, applies to state-regulated plans, CalPERS, and Medi-Cal.
These updates reflect a national shift toward recognizing the emotional, psychological, and clinical impact of medical hair loss.
What Patients Need for Reimbursement
- A prescription using the term "Cranial Prosthesis"
- A diagnosis code linked to medical hair loss
- An itemized invoice with provider Tax ID
- Supporting notes if requested by the insurer
What Providers Should Know
- Use medical terminology such as Cranial Hair Prosthesis
- Include diagnosis and treatment context
- Provide clear, itemized invoices with appropriate coding
The Bottom Line
2026 brings expanded rights, clearer guidelines, and more consistent coverage for individuals experiencing medical hair loss. These changes help ensure patients receive the support, dignity, and medically necessary care they deserve.
Thank you for your continued trust and collaboration.

To Our Clients and Community
Over the past year and a half, we’ve been deeply focused on a project that means a great deal to us: transforming our website into a clear, reliable, experience‑based information source for women who may need — or are currently wearing — Prosthetic Hair, wigs, or augment toppers.
This work reflects more than 50 years of full‑time, hands‑on experience in the hair‑loss field. Our goal is simple: to pass forward the practical knowledge, clinical insight, and real‑world solutions we’ve learned from decades of working directly with women and children experiencing hair loss.
As part of this effort, we’ve also given our site a thoughtful facelift. The redesign is still evolving, and we’re excited about where it now stands — and where it’s heading. You’ll continue to see updates, refinements, and new educational content as we move forward.
Your feedback is invaluable to us. If you have suggestions, ideas, or information you feel could help women navigating hair loss, please share it. Every perspective helps strengthen this resource.
With these upgrades, some of you who previously unsubscribed may receive an email again. We sincerely apologize for that inconvenience. If you prefer not to receive updates, simply click unsubscribe — we never want to send unwanted mail.
Thank you for being part of our community, and for your continued trust. We look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Warm regards, Studio Hair Prosthetics

The Evolving Science of Scalp Realism in Prosthetic Wigs
In today’s prosthetic‑wig landscape, realism isn’t a luxury — it’s the standard. As hand‑tied systems become lighter, more breathable, and more anatomically precise, the materials supporting them must advance at the same pace.
Two innovations leading that evolution are Grip It™ and UnderSkin™ — subtle, foundational tools engineered to enhance comfort, stability, and visual authenticity for modern prosthetic‑wig wearers. They don’t style the system; they protect the realism providers work so hard to create.
Grip It™ — Stability Without Bulk
Hand‑tied systems demand stability, but traditional adhesives, clips, and friction‑based solutions can irritate sensitive scalps. Grip It™ was developed to solve that problem with a soft, tone‑matched band that supports the system without pressure or heat.
How it works:
Micro‑stability through gentle contact
The band creates consistent surface contact to reduce micro‑shifting — the subtle movement that disrupts part lines or lifts edges.
Tone‑matched blending
Available in Lite Skin™ and Deep Skin™, Grip It™ visually disappears beneath the system for a clean, natural perimeter.
Comfort‑first engineering
Thin, flexible, breathable materials support wearers with medical hair loss, post‑operative sensitivity, or chronic scalp tenderness.
Why providers use it:
Grip It™ isn’t about holding a wig on — it’s about preserving placement, density, and realism. It protects the craftsmanship.
UnderSkin™ — A Natural Scalp Tone Beneath the Base
Even the best hand‑tied bases can reveal knots, darker bio‑hair, or uneven scalp tones. UnderSkin™ was created to neutralize those distractions and maintain a clean, uninterrupted scalp illusion.
How it works:
Ultra‑thin tone correction
A breathable, flexible strip softens visibility and creates an even scalp tone without masking.
Cut‑to‑fit precision
Providers trim the strip to match the part line, crown, or frontal footprint for targeted correction.
A gentle buffer
Adds a smooth, comfortable layer between the base and the skin to reduce friction during long wear.
Why providers use it:
UnderSkin™ is especially effective for blondes, regrowth contrast, or clients whose bio‑hair tone competes with the prosthetic system. It’s a subtle enhancement with a visible impact.
Why These Tools Matter
As prosthetic‑wig technology advances, expectations rise. Wearers want systems that look natural, feel natural, and behave naturally throughout the day. Providers want tools that support realism without adding complexity.
Grip It™ and UnderSkin™ deliver exactly that:
They protect realism without altering the system.
They support comfort for medically sensitive wearers.
They enhance confidence — often the most meaningful outcome of all.
Small innovations, big difference.

Informational Tip
Clinical Tip for Providers Working With Prosthetic Wigs and Hair Systems
One of the most common concerns patients and clients share is the visibility of knots, mesh, or base materials under their system — especially in bright light or close‑range social settings.
A simple, low‑burden intervention can dramatically improve realism:
UnderSkin™ by Studio Hair® — a tone‑matched layer applied directly to the underside of the base.Simply apply… and voilà — skin.
For patients, this means:
A more natural‑looking scalp effect
Less reliance on makeup, tinting, or corrective styling
Increased confidence in everyday environments
A cleaner, more believable part line
For providers, it offers:
A predictable, repeatable method to improve realism
A non‑invasive option for sensitive scalps
A way to elevate outcomes without adding service time
A universal solution compatible with lace, mesh, and silk‑top systems
Available in Lite Skin™ and Dark Skin™, UnderSkin™ supports a wider range of tones and helps bridge the gap between prosthetic materials and natural skin appearance.
As prosthetic hair continues to evolve, small refinements like this can make a meaningful difference in patient satisfaction and long‑term wearability.
