✨Nettles✨
This prickly “weed” is a great medicinal herb as well a nutritious food, used basically as spinach typically is. Though you’d want to cook it, blanch it, or blend it to deactivate the little hairy stingers 😉
This weekend I made Nettle White Bean Soup & Nettle Pesto to enjoy fresh this week as well as a Nettle tincture so I can rely on these plant powers throughout the year. Not that you could tell from the photo, but also pictured is my tempeh salad dressed with lime juice and nettle infused vinegar - so many ways to use this plant!
Nettles can also be dried for a mineral rich tea and is the main ingredient in my Nourish Tonic Blend available on my Etsy. 🍵

I had such a lovely weekend walking in the woods, harvesting blue violets, and making a violet syrup ✨
These violet flowers are edible and can be added to salads, soups, sandwiches, or as a garnish. They can also be candied or added to beverages. Violet is a cooling, moistening, cleansing, anti-inflammatory, and safe tonic herb which has been used for colds, coughs, to promote the healing of wounds or bruises, as a mild laxative, and so much more. As a medicinal, violet can be used in an infusion, tincture, syrup, or topically in an oil.
With its heart shaped leaves, this plant embodies the doctrine of signatures and it is also thought to be a heart tonic - bringing comfort, mending the emotional heart, and having aphrodisiac qualities.
Harvesting these little beauties what the best part. When I brought them home I made violet syrup.
To make the syrup, I placed the flowers in a jar and covered with boiling hot water. I let it steep for 24 hours. Then I strained the flowers and got that amazing blue potion. I warmed that up with some raw local honey and some (read: way too much) lemon juice which resulted in the purple color. I definitely would skip the lemon juice next time or just add less to keep the color more vibrant 🤩

Elderberry syrup is back - perfect timing for cold and flu season! Visit the Etsy shop and get some ➡️ Etsy.com/shop/EarthAndMoonWellness
I used fresh wild MA harvested elderberries, raw local honey, organic ginger, cinnamon, clove, and in this years batch - echinacea!
Elder (Sambucus migration) has traditionally been used to support the overall immune system and to help fight colds, flus, respiratory infections, and fevers. It is also made into jams, cordials, and elixirs of all kinds.
Echinacea has immune boosting benefits of its own and works synergistically with elder as they enhance each other’s properties ✨🌱
