The Living Room Wellness Center
A radically inclusive healing space. Come as you are. Healing begins with safety. Living rooms are often the center of the home. It is a place for growing.
The place where we socialize, find solitude, relax and make memories. Living rooms are often a reflection of the people who use them. Living rooms can also hold trauma memories for those who grew up in homes where there was more "surviving" than "living." The Living Room Wellness Center is a place where healing happens. Most of all, it is a place where people can find themselves "living" again. The Living Room Wellness Center is a safe place for ALL people who embody kindness. We are an unapologetically inclusive space and strive to provide services to marginalized groups who struggle to find wellness support in Springfielld and the surrounding area.

You know the feeling. Sitting across from someone with a clipboard, answering rapid-fire questions. Trying to fit your life into neat boxes. Feeling like you're being evaluated instead of understood.
That's not therapy.
That's just interrogation with a degree.
Real therapy feels like a conversation with someone who actually cares about what you're saying. Someone who listens instead of just waiting for their turn to speak. Someone who asks follow-up questions because they're genuinely curious about your experience, not checking off a form.
At The Living Room Wellness, therapy is collaborative. It's about partnership. It's about creating space where you can show up as yourself and be heard without judgment.
All identities, relationships, and family structures are welcome here. LGBTQIA+ affirming. Neurodiversity affirming. Sex-positive. Body-positive. Culturally responsive.
Stop auditioning for your own healing.
Let's just talk.

Some of us live our daily lives hearing and listening to others. We're the ones people turn to. We listen to their experiences, their problems, their opinions. We validate them. We make space for their stories. We do what we can to make them feel heard and seen.
And when it's time to voice ours?
"That sucks bro."
"Wild."
"Good luck with that."
We've learned to take care of ourselves through coping skills because that's often all we get.
We manage.
We survive.
We keep moving.
But here's what no one tells you: coping skills aren't healing. They're just... coping.
You probably have the coping skills. And they probably help, at least a little. But what's actually going to heal? Actually being heard, seen, and understood. Not by someone scrolling past your post or offering surface-level advice. By someone trained to sit with your experience and reflect it back to you with real understanding.
There's a difference between managing and actually moving through something. Between existing and actually living. And it starts with someone finally listening - really listening - to what you've been carrying.
At The Living Room Wellness, that's exactly what we do. We listen. We hear you. We see what you've been through and validate that it matters. Your experience isn't a problem to solve in one session. It's something we work through together.
You've done enough managing alone. It's time to actually be heard.
LGBTQIA+ affirming. Neurodiversity affirming. Sex-positive. Body-positive. Culturally responsive. All identities, relationships, and family structures are welcome here.

Worksheets have their place. Exercises can help. But somewhere along the way, therapy got reduced to a formula. Fill out this form. Complete this worksheet. Follow this predetermined pathway. And if you don't fit the model, well, that's a personal problem.
You're not a worksheet.
Your life isn't a checklist.
And your healing isn't one-size-fits-all.
Real therapy is messy. It's nuanced. It requires someone who can adapt, who can listen, who can follow where you need to go instead of forcing you into a predetermined plan. It means worksheets are a tool, not the treatment.
At The Living Room Wellness, we use evidence-based approaches. We use worksheets when they serve you. But the actual treatment plan? That's built around who you are, what you've been through, and where you're trying to go. Not around what fits neatly into a session.
You deserve therapy that's built for you, not therapy you have to mold yourself into.
LGBTQIA+ affirming. Neurodiversity affirming. Sex-positive. Body-positive. Culturally responsive. All identities, relationships, and family structures are welcome here.

We're coming to Joplin.
After years of building something we genuinely believe in, The Living Room Wellness Center is opening its doors to our Joplin community on October 15th.
This isn't just another therapy practice. We're creating a space built around actual conversations. Around meeting you where you are, not where someone's treatment manual says you should be. Around the belief that healing happens when you feel safe enough to show up as yourself.
We've designed this for real people navigating real lives. For folks exploring their identity. For those working through anxiety, depression, trauma, or major life changes. For couples and families trying to figure it out. For anyone who's ever wanted a therapist, not a diagnosis.
Whether you've tried therapy before and it didn't land, or you're seeking support for the first time, there's room for you here.
LGBTQIA+ affirming. Neurodiversity affirming. Sex-positive. Body-positive. Culturally responsive. All identities, relationships, and family structures are welcome.

September is Su***de Prevention & Awareness Month.
At The Living Room, we believe people deserve a place where they can tell the truthβeven when the truth is, βI donβt want to be here anymore.β
Suicidal thoughts do not make someone dramatic, selfish, attention-seeking, or broken. They often show us that a person is carrying more pain than they know how to carry alone.
So we want to say this clearly:
You do not have to make your pain more palatable before you ask for help.
You do not have to wait until it becomes an emergency.
And you do not have to have the right words.
Check on your people. Ask the uncomfortable question. Listen without trying to fix everything. Take someone seriously when they tell you they are struggling.
And if youβre the one struggling: you deserve support while youβre still here.
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. In the U.S., call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

Look, we're not anti-wellness. Breathing exercises help. Meditation has value. Self-care matters. But somewhere along the way, the self-help industry convinced people that if they just do the right breathing technique or follow the right morning routine, they can think their way out of depression, anxiety, trauma, and generational patterns.
Spoiler: they can't.
Some things require more than a pause and a deep breath. Some things require someone trained to help you understand what's actually happening. Someone who can sit with you while you process grief. Someone who can help you untangle patterns you've carried your whole life. Someone who gets that healing isn't just about feeling calmer... it's about actually changing.
Breathing exercises are a tool. But they're not the whole toolbox.
At The Living Room Wellness, we support all of it. We support you taking care of yourself. And we also support you showing up for real therapy. The kind where something actually shifts. Where you move from just surviving to actually living.
You don't have to choose between self-care and real support.
You get both.

Mindfulness is great.
Until grief takes over.
Or depression resurfaces.
Or someone triggers you in just the right way to bring forward more generational trauma patterns you haven't even seen exist in you yet.
Healing isn't linear. And while mindfulness may be enough during some periods of life, others require real human support. The kind where you're not managing your symptoms alone. The kind where someone sits with you in the complexity and helps you understand what's actually happening beneath the surface.
There's nothing wrong with you for needing more than a breathing app can offer. That's not a sign you're failing at wellness. That's a sign you're ready to do the deeper work. The work that requires someone trained to help you untangle patterns, process what's been stuck, and actually move through it instead of just coping with it.
At The Living Room Wellness, we're not here to sell you another self-care hack. We're here to provide the kind of support that changes things.
Real therapy. Real conversation. Real partnership in your healing.
Mindfulness has its place. But so does sitting across from someone who actually understands what you're carrying and can help you work through it.
LGBTQIA+ affirming. Neurodiversity affirming. Sex-positive. Body-positive. Culturally responsive. All identities, relationships, and family structures are welcome here.

π¨π¨ COMING SOON TO JOPLIN 10/15 π¨π¨
Meet Tara Garrity. She's ready to help you figure it out.
At The Living Room Wellness, we believe therapy should feel like an actual conversation with someone who gets it. Someone who isn't working from a script. Someone who sees you as a whole person navigating real life, not just a diagnosis to treat.
That's exactly what you get with Tara.
Tara is a licensed clinical social worker with nearly two decades of experience supporting adults through identity exploration, life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, and everything in between. She's spent her career working with marginalized and underserved communities, and she has a particular passion for supporting members of the LGBTQ+ community, especially transgender and gender-expansive individuals.
Here's what makes her different: Tara doesn't see therapy as something that happens to you. She sees it as a partnership. She tailors every session to who you actually are and what you actually need, drawing from evidence-based approaches like CBT, EMDR, and Brainspotting. But more than her credentials or her techniques, what clients appreciate about Tara is her genuine care. She shows up with humor, strength-based support, and an unwavering belief in your capacity to grow.
Whether you're figuring out your identity, navigating a major life change, or working through anxiety and trauma, Tara creates the kind of space where you can show up exactly as you are. No editing required.
LGBTQIA+ affirming. Neurodiversity affirming. Sex-positive. Body-positive. Culturally responsive. All identities, relationships, and family structures are welcome here.

Look, we know the playbook.
Someone suggests deep breathing, grounding techniques, maybe a visualization. And sure, those things have their place. But if you're sitting in front of a therapist while your entire world is imploding, the last thing you need is someone asking you to count your breaths.
Sometimes therapy means sitting with the immediate crisis before you get to the root causes. That pragmatism and compassion aren't mutually exclusive.
At The Living Room Wellness, we meet you where you actually are. Not where wellness culture says you should be. Not where a predetermined treatment plan assumes you are. We see what's urgent, what needs attention right now, and we work from there. The deeper work happens when the fire is manageable enough to think clearly.
Whether you're navigating acute anxiety, relationship chaos, identity questions, grief, trauma, or just trying to figure out how to keep your head above waterβwe're not here to bypass where you're really at. We're here to work with it.
Therapy shouldn't require you to edit yourself before you walk through the door. Come as you are. We'll handle the rest.
LGBTQIA+ affirming. Neurodiversity affirming. Sex-positive. Body-positive. Culturally responsive. All identities, relationships, and family structures are welcome here.
