Trying to find that balance between, making soap your main product but also providing the customer with variety, has never been easy for me. Some markets my table would end up looks like display at Ollies, which wasn’t at all what I was going for.
I’ve definitely scaled back to just soaps lately, and I hope to get the flow going again soon.

What do I do with the reject soaps? The bars that aren’t aesthetically pleasing enough to sell. I chop them up, and add them to new soaps! This one I named sea glass.

Did you know that in the twelfth century, English soapmakers began crafting their own version of soap. Soap at one point was considered a 'luxury' item, they had special craftsman, and ingredients that were protected, in places where olive trees were plentiful. Italy was among one of the few places that was heavily sought after by the wealthy for their Castile soaps! Castile soaps are made from olive oil.
Soap was heavily taxed due to it being more of a luxury for the rich. However, in 1853 when the English soap tax was repealed, the soap trade boomed along with a change in social attitude toward bathing and personal hygiene.
Eventually the country side, and America had families creating their own family lye from wood ash, and mixing animal fats, to ensure clean hygiene. Soap, became very important to have on hand, and was greatly sought after for bartering.

Green Tea! This color brings me so much joy! Sometimes, it’s the small thing. We add the green tea powder at the end when we use our stick blender. I also like to bring herbs like comfrey for a similar color!
