Sorry I haven’t posted much lately, been sick! But today I finally closed the dogs off from the garden and chicken run area. The first gate is up and the dog area of my yard is done with its fencing. Now, just need to add one more little bit of fencing and another gate to separate the garden and the soon-to-be chicken run area.

Another day of splitting wood. An 8 log Speedrun

Currently I have one 12x4ft raised garden bed. Here, you can see that I’ve filled it with a bunch of leaves and sawdust. Over the next few months, this will compost and turn into good soil for growing whatever crops I decide to grow. I also plan on building 3 more 12x4 garden beds identical to this one, this winter. First, gotta get all this wood cut and outta the way!

You can also see my partially built chicken run! It’s roughly 100 feet long and 20 feet wide so any chickens I get will have a TON of space to forage for bugs and explore. That entire chicken run will be covered in leaves. I learned from my friend over at that chickens will scratch up dead leaves and turn it into compost mixed with their manure. It also supposedly does a good job at absorbing any smells the chickens might produce with their manure. This leaf mulch will eventually find its way into my gardens as fertilizer. The cycle of life is incredible.

This 8lb Fiskars maul I got off Amazon is a lifesaver! It’s been cutting through wood like butter. Highly recommend if you plan on splitting logs or anything bigger than small pieces. Here’s the link https://a.co/d/iIfj5L1
