The Kouign Amann is the iconic specialty of Douarnenez, the village where I am from. Its name literally means “butter cake” in the Breton language, and it’s easy to see why! Made with layers of dough, generous amounts of salted butter and sugar, it’s baked until the outside becomes beautifully golden and caramelized while the inside stays soft, rich, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
