Every night in Onitsha, when NEPA took light and the whole street went black, an old man named Papa Ike would come out with one small lantern.

He didn’t sell anything. He didn’t preach.
He just walked.
From Eke Market to the river road. From the junction to the last compound.
Lighting the way for people going home late.

People laughed at first.
_"Papa, why waste oil? Everybody has phone torch."_
He’d only smile and say, *"Torch shows you the ground. Lantern shows you that you’re not alone."*

Years passed. The city got brighter. Streetlights came. Generators roared.
Young people stopped walking at night. They drove, they scrolled, they rushed.
Papa Ike’s lantern grew
