The inaugural Silverest Chess Open runs January 7–11, 2026, at NIPA in Zambia, featuring a $14,400 （ ZMW 301,000）prize pool and top international players. Organised by Silverest Chess Club, it has five sections, with K50,000 for the elite winner and K20,000 for the ladies winner. Registration closes January 4, 2026.

Zambia claimed gold and silver at the 2025 African Youth Chess Championship in Zimbabwe, with Raphael Sharon winning Under-18 gold and an International Master title, and Vankhedekar Nikhil Nitya taking silver in Girls Under-10. The results mark Zambia’s first top-podium finish since 2016.

NIPA is hosting an international chess tournament at the NIPA Library, featuring Grandmasters from Algeria and over 200 players from seven African countries. The opening was covered by ZNBC, and the corporate section runs this weekend with Golden Coin Chairperson Paul Kalumba. The public is welcome to attend.
