Angina Bullosa Haemorrhagica (ABH) :

ABH is characterized by the sudden appearance of blood-filled blisters in the mouth, usually without any systemic disease.

Causes / Triggers

Usually due to minor trauma or friction, such as:
Hot or hard food
Sharp teeth or dental appliances
Dental procedures
Coughing, sneezing
Intubation
Steroid inhaler use (local mucosal fragility)

👉 Underlying mechanism: subepithelial vessel rupture due to fragile mucosa.

Clinical Features
Sudden onset
Dark red / purple hemorrhagic blister
Size: a few mm to several cm
Usually painless or mild burning
Blister ruptures spontaneously within hours–1 day
Heals in 3–10 days without scarring

Rarely, large palatal bullae may cause airway discomfort.

💊 Management:

Mostly reassurance 🧘‍♂️
No specific treatment needed
Avoid hot / hard foods
Smooth sharp teeth or appliances
Antiseptic mouthwash (chlorhexidine) if ruptured
Analgesics if painful

Steroids are NOT indicated
