Azature, also known as the “Black Diamond King,” designs jewelry informed by his vast influences, from the craftsmanship and mythology of ancient relics and religion, to his cultural heritage, to modern pop icons like Madonna. Bridging those diverse inspirations together with impeccably handcrafted jewelry, Azature’s work is both intellectual and intuitive, timeless and outrageous. As a child born
and raised in Hollywood, Azature was always drawn to proportions, design and aesthetics, but it wasn’t until his early teens that he discovered his propensity for couture. Azature’s intensity in his studies was rivaled only by his creative passion. In high school, he discovered clothes and accessories as an avenue to “become more of myself,” and learned that distinctiveness, risk, and experimentation would be his lifelong pursuits. Since then, he has devoted himself to honing his vision, majoring in sociology and business at UCLA before moving onto Parsons School of Design, where he completed the graduate-level fashion design program. In recent years, Azature has distinguished himself as a fashion force, working with design-world legends including Richard Tyler, stylist Andrea Lieberman, Alexander McQueen, BCBG and Dior. He founded UCLA’s FAST (Fashion and Student Trends), the university’s first fashion organization, in 2000. (The group has now spread to campuses throughout California). In 2005, Azature won a Parsons/Phat Farm design competition, judged by Project Runway’s Tim Gunn and Russell Simmons, and the same year, the New York Daily News named Azature one of “fashion’s soon-to-be stars.”
Azature’s first collection of fine jewelry launched in the fall of 2007 with seven intricately handcrafted necklaces, charms and rings in a luxurious new metal—a chemically-developed platinum and silver combination—paired with enamel, onyx, and black diamond. In 2008, his hard work paid off when he was selected as a featured designer in GenArt’s Fresh Faces in Fashion—which has launched the careers of fashion stars like Zac Posen and Peter Som—and was also a semi-finalist for the prestigious Ecco Domani Fashion Fund. In 2009, Azature added Azature Atelier, a white-glove, custom jewelry service, to his offerings. As the premier black-diamond-focused designer, Azature has even registered a specific shade of black diamond in his name, and he is dedicated to providing his customers with high-quality, conflict-free gems. With royalty, Hollywood stars and musicians including Rihanna, Fergie, and Beyonce wearing his pieces, it’s no wonder that Azature has been dubbed the Black Diamond King.
