Today is our dad's birthday, and with Samoana's graduation taking place tomorrow, we've been thinking about him a little extra.

SHS has always been a place that reminds us of him. It's where he spent many years as a teacher and principal, and it's also the school that helped shape our family. Every grad season reminds us of how much this place meant to him and how much it continues to mean to us.

With high school graduation season right around the corner, we're excited to invite you to a hands-on workshop where you'll learn how to braid ti leaf rope and create your very own double ti leaf lei from start to finish.

At Lydia & Lei's, we believe a lei is much more than a gift. It is a meaningful expression of love, pride, appreciation, and celebration. Behind every lei is a story of family, sacrifice, achievement, and the people who helped make a special moment possible.

In this workshop, you'll learn how to create your own double ti leaf lei while taking part in a tradition that has been passed down through generations. You'll leave with a finished lei in your hands, but more importantly, you'll leave with a new skill, a deeper appreciation for the art of lei making, and the opportunity to help preserve and carry on a cultural practice for future generations.

Whether you're making a lei for a graduate, a loved one, or simply want to learn something new, this workshop is for you.

🌺 A little note about our local lei 🌺

We’ve been getting asked lately, “What does your local lei look like?”

The truth is, no two lei are ever exactly the same and that’s part of what makes them so special. Our local lei are created using whatever flowers and greenery are fresh, blooming, and available at the time. Depending on the season and what nature provides, they may include a mixture of avapui, ti leaves, mosoʻoi, plumeria, and other local flowers and foliage.

Each local lei carries its own colors, textures, scents, and personality, so they may vary from order to order. But one thing always remains the same: every lei is made with care and intention. ✨

Thank you for appreciating the beauty of handmade, locally gathered lei and the meaning behind each one. 🤍
