Inflammatory acne appears as red, inflamed skin with pustules and papules and is a sign that the body is fighting significant inflammation that needs to be addressed both internally and topically.
This client was dedicated to regular treatments and keeping up with the professional homecare prescribed in clinic. The client also visited a naturopath in between visits to address inflammation in the body at its root.
We are very proud of how far we have come with this skin and continue to treat it to help prevent the acne from returning, as well as address any remaining scarring, which, as you can see, has improved tremendously so far.

Acne is a genetic dysfunction of the follicle, and in many cases, those who suffer from acne are living healthy lifestyles and have good hygiene routines.
This is not to say that lifestyle and hygiene factors can’t contribute to acne, because they absolutely can. But 9 times out of 10, the acne sufferer has a genetic dysfunction of the follicle.
What is inflammatory acne?
Hyperkeratosis (dead skin cells) and oil accumulate inside the follicle, the environment becomes ideal for C. acnes bacteria to proliferate. Inflammation occurring within the body can then cause an inflammatory reaction within the skin which causes the formation of papules, pustules, cysts and nodules.
This type of acne can scar quickly and easily, so it is important to get on top of treating it with an acne professional as soon as possible.

Non inflamed (comedonal) acne and inflamed (pustule and papule) acne combination clearing results.
Acne takes 60-90 days to build in the follicle starting as a micro comedone which we cannot see or feel straight away. Acne clearing journeys take 6-12 months.
This form of acne takes time to treat as we have both non inflamed and inflamed lesions. Non inflamed acne often becomes inflamed to a pustule or papule before it clears as this is part of the acne cycle.
Acne is our specialty and every single acne client we treat has different root causes. No two skins are the same so it is really important to get any acne advice from an acne specialist.
