Hello beautiful people
Happy New Year!!
I want to start by thanking everyone who has supported me through this journey.
It started of as way of making some cash on the side while I was unemployed and just finishing my undergrad, I never actually thought it would take it off.
I think deep down I always doubt my own abilities as a hairdresser, I still struggle calling myself that.
I am just someone who happens to know how to braid.
I struggled with believing my braids were good enough
I struggled to keep up with the many trends and to find my own identity in the world of braiding.
But this little business, which started in sisters garage, to be the living room of my shared house, to redecorating/renovating my mum’s entire garage (thank you Mum), has really helped me grow and help me develop a sense of confidence in knowing, I did that.
To anyone who is having similar doubts, just start
You will figure it out along the way.
You will find your tribe and your people and you will be fine
Don’t worry about trends, find something you do and do it well.
It was an honor to do your hair and to hear your stories
I loved opening my home to you all and I love watching your confidence boost with every new hairdo.
It’s with greatness that I deliver this news
My hair salon will still remain close, until further notice.
If I am being completely honest, I don’t know when I will go back to doing hair again.
I currently do not have the space to do a pop up hair salon as well as the time.
Life is hard and being in your 20s is harder sometimes.
Between career progression, more studying and trying to do this thing call life, I just don’t have the time to do hair anymore, or to give it the attention it deserves.
I think many people know this
But braiding is not easy, doing hair as a business it’s not easy.
It’s a lot of long hours, bending backs, irregular meal times, terrible self care, and at times not much profit due to the fact hair braiding is undervalued, the skill itself is not recognized, as well as the competitive nature of the business.
I really wanted to see this grew
It was more then doing hair for me
I loved the human connection aspect of it and I love being able to share something that has been so intertwine with my culture and my heritage with people. Hair braiding is an art but it also something which brings people together, it’s a space where women can be themselves, express themselves and talk about all aspects of womanhood.
So thank you for being part of journey, thank you for your support and your love.
This is not the end
Until next time
Much love,
Kani
We definitely need more diversity in the hair and make up industry.
What do you mean you can’t do black hair? Or apply make up on dark skin?
If you are a professional in your field and have been practicing for 10 or more years, especially in Hollywood, it’s disgraceful that you can’t cater to people of colour.
Make up and hairdressing course need to take that into account

Hello everyone
I appreciate all messages and apologies to anyone wanting to book an appointment.
I’ve had to put my business on hold.
I’m taking this time off to just settled back into Brisbane.
Where I am currently staying doesn't enable me to do hair from home.
Sorry for any inconvenience

Hello lovely people,
Sorry it has taken me a while to respond to everyone.
The last few months has been super busy for me.
This is an announcement to let everyone know that I am no longer offering my services in Darwin. I’ve relocated to Brisbane for the meantime.
I am grateful for the opportunity Darwin has offered me and the amazing customers that I’ve met along the way.
Thank you Darwin.

Hey everyone,
Apologies for the delayed response.
I am not longer taking any bookings for 2019.
Booking for 2020 will open up late January - early February.
Sorry for inconvenience.
I also want to take this time to thank everyone for supporting me, and trusting me to do your hair. I’ve had so much fun doing everyone’s hair this year.
Honestly, I’m always grateful for the love that I get from all my customers.
Huge shout out to my customers that kept coming back, my regulars ❤️
Thank you to everyone that has recommended me to their family and friends.
Braiding was just a hobby, I actually use to hate it.
I use to hate undo aunties hair, hated it even more when my big sisters use to make me finish the ends 🙄
But who knew you can make money out of it. So to all my little sisters that hate doing hair, trust me you will thank your hands one day. And to all the mamas, aunties, big sisters forcing the little ones to keep the skills alive, keep doing it.
When I started this page, I didn’t think much of it. I was happy to have 1-2 customers a week. Not once did I expect to be booked out back to back.
To be honest, I still doubt my ability to do hair
Being self taught, sometimes I lack confidence.
Hair braiding is always trending, it’s always switching up and sometimes it’s hard to keep up with trends. But I am trying and I will keep learning and improving and watching lots of YouTube videos.
So to everyone that has volunteered their head for me to practice on, thank you
And to the customers that took a gamble on me, thank you too.
The start of this year, I didn’t even know how to do feed in braids, but would you look at me 😂
I hope next year I can add more styles to my list of service.
And on a final note, I mostly love doing hair because of the stories that I hear and people the I meet.
I love giving tea and welcoming people to my home, I love bonding over chic flicks, I love watching my customers face light up once the hair is done, I love our late evening wine sesh (how many salons would let you drink wine), I love watching y’all meet my family and cracking up as mum forces y’all to eat.
Doing hair is so intimate, even though people get their hair done to try a new look, for many it’s a form a self care, its something to do right after a break up, or before you walk out of someone’s life, or just to gain control over your life again, and I am here for all that that.
Thank you for trusting me with your stories and allowing me to hold that space.
Looking forward to 2020.
Stay safe this festive season
Much love,
Kani
Merry Christmas to all my beautiful customers
