✨ While we’re definitely disappointed that our renovation is taking longer than we hoped, we’re so grateful to have a space where we can still do what we love most… creating incredible hair.

When a client sits in your chair and says, “Do whatever you want,” it’s equal parts exciting and terrifying… but it’s always an opportunity to create something special. 🔥🌋

The salon might be a work in progress, but the creativity definitely isn’t. ❤️

I know there hasn’t been much of a renovation update lately, but honestly… weeks of emails, phone calls and meetings with builders, engineers, draftsmen and certifiers aren’t exactly Instagram-worthy.

But finally! This is the first real progress we’ve seen since the original demolition almost 10 weeks ago.

As you might remember, we uncovered some structural issues with the existing beams. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a simple fix, which has led to another round of demolition.

The biggest change is that the beautiful hardwood floors are completely gone.

As sad as I am to see them go, removing the floor gives the team the access they need to repair the structure properly. It’s also shown us just how lucky we were to uncover these issues before they became a much bigger problem.

You can actually see the weight of the ceiling resting on these timber noggins, with no proper support underneath. It was a bit of a ticking time bomb.

Removing the floor has also given us full access to inspect the footings underneath. A few of them are looking a little suspicious, so we’re waiting to hear from the engineer later this week.

Keep your fingers (and toes!) crossed there aren’t too many more surprises waiting for us. 🤞

Unfortunately, the structural repairs also triggered the building approval process, meaning we now have to bring the building up to current standards.

The upside is that we’re not only fixing the structure with the required bracing, but also creating a much better salon. We’re replacing the shopfront with step-free access and building a new accessible bathroom.

Ironically, both of those were already on our renovation wish list—we’d just planned to tackle them later. Well… that ship has definitely sailed, so we may as well do it properly while everything is already torn apart.

While this project has become much bigger than we ever imagined, we’re excited to finally be building the salon we’ve always wanted.

RENOVATION UPDATE 🚧✨

If you’ve ever renovated anything, you’ll know that sometimes you uncover surprises you definitely weren’t expecting!

We’ve hit a few engineering and structural hurdles along the way which have slowed things down more than we’d hoped. Turns out structural engineers take their job of preventing buildings from falling down very seriously. 😅

While we’re waiting for the structural side of things to be finalised, progress is still happening behind the scenes.

Last week, 55 boxes arrived containing our brand-new styling chairs, basin lounges, stools and furniture for the new FLAVR.

Nothing makes a renovation feel more real than having an entire salon delivered before you’ve actually finished building the salon. 🤣

We’re incredibly lucky to have both a temporary home to keep serving our amazing clients and somewhere to store what is rapidly becoming a mountain of boxes. Without that flexibility, this unexpected delay would have been a whole lot more stressful.

For now, we’ll keep unpacking, checking, storing and dreaming about where all this beautiful new furniture will eventually live.

RENOVATION WEEK 1 UPDATE 🚧

Not quite the dramatic before & after yet 😅

We’ve hit a small delay after discovering the existing ceiling support beams are structurally unsound, so we’re currently waiting on the engineer’s report before the builders can officially get underway.

As frustrating as it is, we want to make sure everything is done properly from the ground up so the end result is worth it ✨

Big things are coming… this is just the beginning 👀
