Day 2 of my Brisbane Moxa Workshop: We started the day with another challenging technique, making Chinetsukyu Cones, but everyone did exceptionally well! They can be used to remove cold from the lower abdomen, eg. for some infertility cases, and to move Stagnation, eg. often used on tight shoulders. We also use them to prepare for labour on the sacrum.
The Cones can get pretty smokey, so we headed outside to practice on each other - which we could do because it was warm outside, until it started raining!
After lunch we covered Kyutoshin or Needle Head Moxa, using Ondan on the lower abdomen (for Blood Stagnation - eg. cysts, fibroids), and for Yin Deficiency on BL23 for the Kidneys. Plus I showed them the old-style Moxa balls in combination with the Ikeda Tsubo Pros (or old Ceramic-Kyu holders).
The group asked lots of great questions, showing their high level of engagement, and I was so grateful to have the wonderful expertise and experience of my assistants Efrat, Sylvia & Kaz 💜💜

Day 1 of my Brisbane Moxa Workshop: It was such a wonderful group of enthusiastic participants to teach about the ancient Art of Moxibustion!
We started with the one that everyone wants to learn, Tonetsukyu or Rice Grain/ Direct Moxa. It's always hard to learn, but hopefully everyone will go home & practice practice practice!
The afternoon was intentionally a bit lighter with learning about the "processed" versions of Moxa, Kamaya Mini and Choseikyu - & culminating in the "Okuma-Sensei Pelvic Adjustment Method, using Kamaya Mini. My teacher Okuma-Sensei, whom I did my apprenticeship with all those years ago, adapted his chiropractic knowledge to help people with lower back pain, predominantly using Moxibustion as well as shallow needling. Hopefully I've been able to pass on this genius technique to another group of practitioners.
It was also so lovely to catch up with some of my Acupuncture besties, as well as have dinner with participants from last year's and this year's Japan Moxa Tours.

Hip Pain? Moxibustion May Help. 🔥
Hip pain can make everyday activities like walking, climbing stairs, or even sleeping uncomfortable. Moxibustion, a traditional Japanese therapy that uses the gentle warmth of burning mugwort (moxa) over specific acupuncture points, may help reduce pain and improve mobility.
The warmth from moxibustion can: Relieve muscle tension and stiffness. Improve local blood circulation. Support the body's natural healing response. Reduce chronic pain and discomfort. Promote relaxation and overall wellbeing.
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, hip pain is often associated with stagnation of Qi and Blood or the invasion of Cold and Damp. Moxibustion helps warm the channels, improve circulation, and restore the smooth flow of Qi, helping to ease pain and stiffness.
Whether your hip pain is due to arthritis, overuse, muscle strain, or chronic tightness, a personalised acupuncture and moxibustion treatment may help you move more comfortably.

Moxibustion isn't appropriate for every type of hip pain, so it's important to have the underlying cause assessed, especially if the pain is severe, follows an injury, or is accompanied by fever, numbness, or inability to bear weight.

You know how to use the needles, but what about the other half of the word "Acupuncture" in Chinese/Japanese - Moxibustion?!

A spot has opened up for my upcoming Brisbane Moxa Workshop on 1-2 August.

Come and join me in a small intimate setting where you will learn how to use different techniques and when to use them. There will be plenty of time for practicing and refining your techniques, no matter where you are on your moxa journey.

All the details in my bio - or comment MOXA

Did you know that Moxa is said to predate the needles by over 1000 years?

What's more, the Chinese/ Japanese characters for 'Acupuncture', 鍼灸 (zhēn jiǔ or shin kyū), actually mean 'Acupuncture' plus 'Moxa'.

In fact, Chapter 73 of the Ling Shu states that 'a disease that is not successfully treated by Acupuncture may be treated by Moxibustion '.

Yet despite its importance, I've found that many practitioners leave Moxa sitting on the shelf simply because they were never really shown how to use it confidently, or just resort to moxa sticks.

Join me & my wonderful assistants for an intimate hands-on weekend where you'll learn and get to practice the main Moxa techniques you can use, no matter what style you practice.

Final spots up for grabs for my only workshop this year - don't miss out!
