When sitting at a desk for long periods, remember to take regular breaks and give this quick stretch a go!
When doing these stretches hold the stretch for a good 15 - 20 seconds while taking in deep breaths in and out. A lot of neck tension can build up in the neck when working for long hours which can also lead to headaches and even migraines.
These stretches are targeting: Upper Trapezius, Scalenes, Sternocleidomastoid SCM, Levator Scapula

Well this all depends on you.
What your current situation is? What your goals are?
Is the massage you’re booking for recovery for an injury?
You may be in the middle of sports season and need fast recovery?
Or just need to get away and melt some tension?

Generally if its for recovering from an injury and we are working on getting some range of motion back then it would be more regular weekly treatments. If treatment is going well and the client is doing the allocated homework after treatment these weekly treatments will move to fortnightly and then eventually a maintenance program.

The tension you are holding in your body which has built up over many months or years will not disappear in only one session. Ideally once a week or two until the tissue is in good shape.

Depending on your budget and goals we can come up with a treatment plan that will work for you.

Cupping is a tool that I use in my practise which is a cup that is applied to the skin and once the pump is used the skin and superficial muscles are vacuumed into the cup.
It is a great technique, rather than pushing down into the muscle the cupping tools has an opposite effect and pulls the tissue up.

Benefits of cupping:
- Helps with reduction in muscular pain
- Assists in releasing trigger points
- Promotes blood flow to areas increasing oxygen and healing
- Decrease in muscle tightness
- Releases fascial restrictions

Cupping is relatively pain free.

Trigger points are very common and can feel like a sensitive area which can be very painful, stiff, burning and irritated. It is described as a “taut bands of muscle fibre” or fascia and when stimulated a twitch response may follow.

Trigger points are very interesting in some cases the pain can be local to one area or it can start local and refer over to the other side of the body. They can even lead to tension headaches, pain that mimics shin splints, jaw pain, deep cramp, carpal tunnel syndrome like symptoms, sciatica like pain and other interesting phenomena.

Why do we get trigger points?
- Bad Posture
- After an operation/procedure at hospital
- Repetitive movement
- Muscle injuries
- Stopping regular exercise
- Stress
- Overloading a muscle

It is important to address trigger points to eliminate the symptoms of pain and weakness in a muscle which can also lead to restricted range of motion.
