Reducing uncertainty is nervous-system support

When your nervous system is already stressed, the unknowns can add another layer of pressure.

Where do I go?
What does it cost?
What do I wear?
Where do I park?
What happens when I arrive?

They might seem like small things, but when you’re already feeling anxious, not knowing what to expect can make things feel harder.

We like to feel informed. We like to know what’s coming. Reducing uncertainty helps the nervous system feel safer.

So I’ve made it a priority to remove as many of those unknowns as possible.

My confirmation and reminder emails include everything you need to know before your appointment, including a YouTube video showing you exactly where to park.

And so many new clients have told me that having this information beforehand has reduced their anxiety and made coming to see me feel so much easier.

Creating safety starts before you even walk through the door.

Pain isn’t just physical.

When you’re living with ongoing pain, it can start to affect everything — your mood, your confidence, your ability to move, work, sleep and enjoy life.

And the more worried you become about your pain, the more your nervous system can stay on high alert.

This is one reason chronic pain can be so difficult to treat.

It’s not “all in your head” — the pain is real.

But your brain and nervous system play a huge role in how pain is experienced and maintained.

The good news? Your nervous system can learn something different.

With the right approach, we can help your body feel safer, reduce the stress response and start changing the way your brain processes pain.

Do you find yourself protecting your body from pain?

You move carefully, think twice before twisting, brace your stomach, avoid certain movements and lift cautiously.

You might even check in with your body throughout the day:

“Is that going to hurt?”

It makes sense that you’d want to protect yourself. But over time, your nervous system can start to associate movement with danger.

Your muscles stay tense, your body stays on guard, and pain can become easier to trigger.

This is one reason I love somatic therapy.

We don’t just focus on the painful area. We also work with your nervous system and help your body experience more safety.

Because your body doesn’t need more fear around movement. It needs gentle, new experiences that show it movement can be safe.

You don’t have to spend the rest of your life being careful with your body.

There is another way. Book in for September via the booking link.

Stress is the feeling of tension we get when faced with an event that we feel unable to cope with.
The term comes from the Latin word, stringer, which means to draw tight.

When working somatically with a client, they describe it this way. Tightness in the shoulders, clenching in the jaw. The body feels compressed, smaller. The fascia pulled tight, holding the body in protective pattern.

In sessions on the table, we attune to safety and support, a strategy for the mind and body to shift into regulation, soften and relax.

Co-regulation is the process where a calm, regulated nervous system helps soothe and stabilize a dysregulated one through safe connection.

In my work, I use a grounded, embodied presence and gentle touch to cue safety, allowing the client’s autonomic nervous system to shift out of stress and into deep rest.

In a tech culture of being highly connected, many of my clients - myself included, are feeling deeply lonely and disconnected. AI cannot offer co-regulation as it doesn’t have a nervous system, but I do.

If you want to work on regulation, feeling more embodied and reduce your pain, contact me to book in.

I call the work I do with clients on the table Somatic Therapy to encompass all the things I bring to the session.

I am qualified in remedial massage, dry needling, reflexology and pregnancy massage. I have trained as a baby massage instructor and recently qualified as a trauma- trained Craniosacral practitioner.

In my sessions, I use the 20 years of experience and techniques to create safety, softness, regulation and relaxation. My intention is always to leave a client in a better place than when they walked in.

With my history of cystic fibrosis and deep understanding of pain, my specialist area is working with a dysregulated nervous system resulting in a clenched and braced body and managing unresolved pain.

Your body is bracing and guarding. Creating tension, fatigue and a system that is on hyper alert.

We can settle this with a somatic session, to attune to cues of safety, to soften, feel calm and present. Bookings available next week.

When children come into my clinic, they rarely arrive alone.

They arrive with a parent—usually Mum—and often siblings too. Before we’ve even begun, there are multiple nervous systems in the room.

My job isn’t simply to treat the child.

It’s to become the most regulated nervous system in the space.

While I’m talking with Mum, asking about school, sleep, friendships and sport, I’m gathering far more than a history. I’m listening for the story behind the child’s nervous system. Are they constantly under pressure? Do they feel supported? Where are they thriving, and where are they surviving?

At the very same time, I’m attuning to the child.

I’m noticing how they’re holding themselves. Their breathing. The subtle tension patterns through their body. Their craniosacral rhythm. Every small cue their nervous system is offering.

This is where experience matters.

Many children haven’t experienced therapeutic touch before. Lying on a treatment table with a practitioner can feel like a spotlight has been turned onto them. For a child whose nervous system is already on high alert, that’s often too much.

So I don’t put them under the spotlight.

Instead, I connect with Mum.

As the child hears her voice nearby, their nervous system recognises something familiar. Something safe. Without asking anything of them, I’ve already begun creating the conditions for their body to settle.

Then I wait.

The first yawn. A softening through the shoulders. A tummy gurgle. A slower breath.

These aren’t just lovely moments—they’re signs that the nervous system no longer feels it has to stay on guard.

Only then do I begin following the body’s lead with massage and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy.

Children don’t need to explain what’s happening in their body. They don’t need to perform, make eye contact or find the right words.

They simply need someone who knows how to listen to the language their nervous system is already speaking.

That’s the work I love most.
