🧩 Why do Occupational Therapists use LEGO in sessions?

Because it's so much more than just building!

A few weeks ago, one of our amazing clients completed this fantastic LEGO creation, and we couldn't let the moment pass without celebrating their achievement!

Throughout the build, they demonstrated incredible perseverance, determination and problem-solving. There were times when the task became challenging, but they continued to work through each step, adapted when needed, and experienced the rewarding sense of accomplishment that comes from achieving a goal through persistence.

While LEGO is fun, it is also an incredibly valuable Occupational Therapy tool that supports the development of many important skills, including:

🧩 Fine motor strength and hand dexterity
🧩 Bilateral coordination (using both hands together)
🧩 Visual perception and visual-motor integration
🧩 Attention, concentration and sustained focus
🧩 Executive functioning skills, including planning, organising, sequencing and problem-solving
🧩 Following multi-step instructions
🧩 Frustration tolerance, resilience and flexible thinking
🧩 Confidence and self-esteem through achieving meaningful goals

Every brick placed represents so much more than a step in the build—it reflects persistence, learning, resilience and growing independence.

A huge congratulations to our wonderful client! Your determination, patience and willingness to keep trying, even when things became tricky, were inspiring to watch. We are incredibly proud of everything you achieved and can't wait to see what challenge you tackle next! 👏💙
